fflbr ArUona Dailn Star Tucson, Sunday, January 29, 1995 Rockettes hoof their way to Las Vegas for indefinite run Page Two Section With a contribution of $100 or more, a donor can have the name of any immigrant carved on the wall, regardless of when or through what port that individual entered the United States. A computer registry in the museum's lobby provides every name's location on the wall, the immigrant's country of origin, and the donor's name, city and state. Proceeds are used to restore other buildings in the Ellis Island museum complex and to establish an immigration library. For information: The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, P.O. There's a new reason to kick up your heels in Las Vegas this month. The Radio City Rockettes, probably the world's most famous precision dance troupe, will high-step their way into the Flamingo Hilton on Wednesday to begin an indefinite run. Susan Anton will be a special guest star in the "Great Radio City Spectacular," which replaces the long-running stage and ice extravaganza "City Lites." The show, according to Flamingo representatives, is suitable for the entire family but still flaunts the type of showroom glamour we expect from Las Vegas. Get a good laugh in Aspen Highlighting mud season in this Rocky Moun- tain ski town will be the first annual U.S. Comedy Arts Festival, March 22-26.

Attempting to do for comedy what Sundance has done for independent films, the festival combines performers from every comedy discipline -film, stand-up, revues, television, theater. A name on the heritage wall Space on the American Immigrant Wall of Honor is filling up fast.

The memorial wall a 652 '-foot-long, double-sided semicircle at the Ellis Island Immigration Museum in New York City is engraved with names representing virtually every nationality from every inhabited continent on Earth. Since 1988, a total of 480,000 names have been registered by family members who want to honor their heritage. But a spring cutoff date will soon be announced, as there is space for only about 20,000 more. The ninth annual festival, which runs until Feb. 20, is a week longer than last year, accommodating two more theme weekends: "Romancing the Snow" (Feb. 10-12) and "Fiesta en la Nieve" (Feb. 170). The festival's 180 "events target all ages, interests and athletic abilities.

Dozens are designed especially for kids, including children's theater, sleigh rides and lots of snow games. Races challenge cross-country skiers and downhill skiers, snowshoers and mushers with sled dogs, even folks on foot. Indoors there will be dance, theater and musical performances and the Pepsi Winterfaire Arts and Crafts Show (Feb. 4-5). Clad in long, straw-colored dusters, we felt like the Earp brothers in the movie "Tombstone," but our bulky, felt-lined rubber boots looked more like something a Vermont farmer would wear. Since we were neophytes, our wrangler carefully covered the basics of turning and stopping our horses. Nothing to it, I naively thought. This is a dude ranch. But this is also winter.

While Colorado is dude ranch country, many of the ranches close in the off-season, finding chuck-wagon cookouts too challenging in the ice-bound mountains. Others don't. Some welcome city slickers and their families until the end of March, for tube-mobiling and broom ball, cross-country skiing by moonlight and a bonanza of gourmet meals that would do the Cartwrights proud. Read about it next week in Travel. Dan Leeth photo Head wrangler Bill Fisher leads riders at the Lazy Ranch, one of several dude ranches open for snow fun.
