Born and raised in Park Ridge, Mr. Sebastian was an altar boy at St.

Paul of the Cross Catholic Church in Park Ridge and attended St. Ignatius Prep before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. For four years during World War IL he served as a storekeeper on the USS Webster, a supply ship in the South Pacific. Mr.

Sebastian returned home, married and worked as a salesman for the Curtiss Candy Co. Mr. Sebastian and his family moved to Des Plaines in 1952, where he started a real estate business, said his son David Sebastian. Mr. Sebastian retired in 1984 but was active in Des Plaines civic life.

He also was the past president of the Northwest Suburban Real Estate Board. "He was the quintessential perfect gentleman," his son said. "He lived his life by a code of ethics, a code of honor. You could count on him to do the right thing." Mr. Sebastian also is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty; two sons, William and Ronald; a daughter, Debra Ann O'Brien; two brothers, Joseph and Thomas; a sister, Anne; and three grandchildren.

Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday in G.L. Hills Funeral Home, 745 Graceland Des Plaines, to be followed by a mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, 794 Pearson Des Plaines.

Isabel Kern Strauss Isabel Kern Strauss, 92, a longtime North Shore resident, died Tuesday in her home in Phoenix. Mrs. Strauss was the "perfect mother," according to her son, Marshall K. Strauss. "She devoted her life to her family," her son said.

"She gave us responsibilities, always trusted us. We had a wonderful relationship." Mrs. Strauss was born in Chicago. The youngest of six girls, she was raised in the Edgewater area and attended Senn High School. She married in 1930.

After her husband, Marshall Strauss, died in 1958, Mrs. Strauss became independent and learned how to take care of herself, her children said. "She had a tremendous disposition," her son said. "In 61 years, I don't think my mother ever said any mean thing. She never displayed any kind of temper.

She had a very even keeL" Mrs. Strauss also resided in Highland Park and Evanston for 51 years, where she volunteered at Lake Forest Hospital Mrs. Strauss is also survived by a daughter, Martha Churchill; and three grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday in Drake Son Funeral Home, 5303 N.

Western Ave. Services will follow. Edwin J. Tarsa Edwin J. Tarsa, 88, a 24-year former resident of Des Plaines, died Thursday in Church Creek Retirement Center in Arlington Heights.

Mr. Tarsa was a retired tool designer with 40 years of service with Western Electric. He was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America, the Des Plaines Seniors Club and the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Flanagan and Patricia Small; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Prayers will be said at 10:30 a.m.

Monday in Grove Memorial Chapel, 1199 S. Arlington Heights Elk Grove Village, to be followed by mass at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, 794 Pearson St, Des Plaines. John Joseph Walsh John Joseph Walsh, 74, a retired municipal bond salesman, died of cancer Sunday in his home in Northfield.

Mr. Walsh retired in 1990 as manager of the bond department at American National Bank. He previously had sold bonds at Mulaney Wells and Wal-ston Co. Mr. Walsh held a chemical engineering degree from the University of Notre Dame and was a graduate of Francis Parker High SchcoL He served in the U.S.

Army during World War IL Mr. Walsh is survived by his wife, Jean; a daughter, Jeanne Jeffris; and three grandchildren. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Thursday in St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 1962 Old Willow Rd.

in Northfield. Mass will follow at 4 p.m. Lionel Edward Watson Lionel Edward Watson, 88, a retired real estate broker, inventor and longtime resident of Lake Forest died Feb. 14 in the hospice of Evanston HospitaL Mr. Watson, a native of Australia, immigrated to the U.S.

from Sydney in 1957. Shortly afterward, he joined Baird Warner's Winnetka real estate office. He then opened and managed the firm's Lake Forest office, where he worked until his retirement in 1969. After retiring, Mr. Watson moved from Lake Forest to Ft Pierce, Fla.

For almost three decades, Mr. Watson remained busy, writing poems and lyrics for Christian music. He also invented and secured patents for various items, including a device for tightening eyeglasses and a camper wind stabilizer, which helps keep a traveling camper from swerving. He is survived by two daughters, Del Nagy and Moya Chase; a son, Lionel Albert; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Services will be private.

Irving N. Goldberg Irving N. "Tot" Goldberg, 77. of Lansing died Thursday in Minister Community Hospital in Minister, Ind. Mr.

Goldberg, a longtime Chicago resident, was an optometrist for Sears department stores in the city. He lived on Chicago's Southeast Side before moving to a Lansing retirement home In 1983, according to his brother-in-law Jake Tarnofsky. A World War II veteran, Mr. Goldberg was stationed for several years in Ft. Benning, Ga.

He was a member of the Pvt. Sam Neivelt Post 407 of the Jewish War Veterans. Survivors include a sister, Shirley Tarnofsky. Services will be at noon Monday in Menorah Gardens Cemetery, one-half mile south of Roosevelt Road on 17th Avenue, Broadview. Carl Linde Carl Linde, 99, a founder of the Rockford Museum Center and a vigorous promoter of Swedish culture, died Thursday in Resthaven Nursing Home, Downers Grove.

Born in Sweden in 1900, the son of a glassblower, Mr. Linde immigrated to Rockford in 1923 after living in Denmark, Finland and Russia. He worked as an electrician and eventually moved into research and sales for the John S. Barnes until his retirement in 1967. Throughout his life he was a tireless promoter and historian of Swedish culture, family members said.

Despite his love for Sweden, "He always felt the United States was the best country in the world," said his daughter Kathryn Ball. "He had a passion for learning and for life. He had one of the most interesting lives you could imagine." In 1993, Mr. Linde was awarded the Vasa Medal by the king of Sweden for his work in Swedish groups in the United States, including the Swedish Historical Society, the Swedish Cultural Society, Vega Lodge and others in Rockford. He also served as president of the Swedish Cultural Society of America.

Mr. Linde and his wife of 69 years, Hulda Lundquist, 94, lived in Rockford until 1990, when they moved to a Lisle retirement home. Other survivors include a daughter, Carol Rapp; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at noon Monday in the Fred C. Olson Mortuary, 1001 2nd Rockford.
