Born in Chicago's Back of the Yards neighborhood, Mr. Dyrkacz moved to Medinah in 1947 to fulfill a dream of building his own home, said his daughter Patricia Peace. For nine years, Mr. Dyrkacz spent time before and after work building a three-bedroom ranch home on acres on Medinah Road, while he and his family lived in a small coach house, Peace said.
