Wallenhorst, 89 By Jennifer Vigil TRIBUNE STAFF WRITER Rev. George A. Wallenhorst, 89, a Jesuit priest who served chaplain at Cook County Hospital for almost 30 years, died Sunday of natural causes at the Colombiere Jesuit Community in Clarkston, Mich. Father Wallenhorst saw a need at the hospital for chaplains who could counsel in Spanish, so he traveled to Mexico City to master the language, said a colleague, Father William Madden. "He saw that as a need he could fulfill." Madden said.

"He made it his aim to learn it well so he could serve them well." But he also made sure to help hospital employees and rarely took time off without being prodded. "He had a sort of bounce to him, always a smile. He was very good." said Madden, who worked with Father Wallenhorst for 17 years. "He encouraged others a great deal, particularly those who were workers at the hospital." 0. Peggy McMurray Nottger O.
