TWO BLYTHEVTLLE (AUK.) COURIER NEWS MONDAY, MAY 9, 1049 Bomber Retraces Famed Sea Flight . Modern Navy Plane /Follows Route of First Ocean Crossing '.' LISBON PORTUGAL. May 9. W| —The Truculent Turtle landed at Lisbon airfield today, retracing the historic 1919 flight of the NC-4. The Navy bomber landed at 12:07 p.m. (5:07 am. CST). The commemorative flight by the two-engined plnne across the Atlantic was uneventful. The Turtle, which took off jwtcrday from Floyd Bennet Field In New York, flew by way of Newfoundland and the Azores,"The trip took 16 hours and 50 minutes. The time was In sharp contrast to the 19 days It took the canvas and plywood NC-4 to make the trip 30 years ago. The NC-1 was the first plane to span the Atlantic. Pilot of the Turtle, a Lockheed P2V-2 Neptune, was Cmdr. Thomas D. Davies of Clicvy Cliase, Md., who also commanded it on ILs 19-16 record non-stop 11.2M-mllc hop from Perth.
