Inter low voices between the acts, while the eyes of all followed the composer as he went hurriedly to and fro. Miss Garden came into the parquet on one occasion to speak to some friends. One feature that caused comment was the comparative ease with which the spoken words of the singers could be distinguished. The much-mooted question as to the advisability of giving opera in English was brought up and the purity of Sammarco's diction was commented on. The scenic effects were duly admired, and their quiet and tasteful yet truly atmospheric qualities praised.

The groupings of the chorus were also favorably criticised. "Natoma" will be given its first public presentation on Saturday night at the Metropolitan.
