On February 19. 1911. WILLIAM J. The wheels of time have been turned back over 100 years in this exhibition, which consists of making Old English Chintzes, Cretonnes and Printed Linens by hand. It is a unique demonstration, given by a representative from England, and can be seen only in this Store for one weekl Block Printing, or the art of printing by hand, with wooden blocks, was the principal industry of the village of Dartf ord, England, over a century ago.

After a time the industry lagged, and was finally dropped. Recently it was revived, the blocks, which had been discarded, being reassembled and the industry taken up where it was left off so many years ago. A remarkable feature of this hand Block Printing is that the colors are absolutely sun- and water-proof. See this most interesting exhibition, on the THIRD FLOOR, as well as the beautiful Cretonnes and nr vi ai husband of Mary Hale, aged 66 years. Relatives and friends, also Fruit and Produce surd title which the opera bears.

If the nature of Cio-Cio San had been akin to that of the butterfly there could have been no second or third acts, and the tragic denoument would have been, quite out of the question. In order to invest an already highly improbable story with any aspect of plausibility it is necessary that its heroine should be portrayed as inspired with a deep and serious sentiment, and so she was last evening. ihe did not simper and giggle and "smile as in the orthodox Japanese manner, but by the tender sobriety of her demeanor indicated a realization of the gravity of the step she was taking and so prepared the way for the subsequent developments. It was a well considered and intelligently executed piece of work. The Pinkerton of Ricardo Martin is also a decided improvement on some we have seen.

It is so vocally, for Mr. Martin has a true tenor voice of beautiful quality and ample volume, which he employs with t-kili and knowledge and discretion, and it is so on its dramatic side, because it communicated the impression of a genuine emotion. When Mr. Bassi took the part a few days ago his tongue was visibly in his cheek all the time, and he gave the audience clearly to understand that there was no feeling of sentiment or of romance in the quasi-matrimonial transaction so far- as the alwavs odious linkerton was con Merchants of Phila, are invited to attend the funeral services, on Saturday. A half-hour's shopping will reveal many new economies. These are only instances: $2-75 Clothes Wrinaers now $225 25c Zinc Wash Boards now 18c $1.50 Galvanized Ash Cans $1.00 45c Garbage Canswilh Cover 30c 45c Coffee Boilers 2-quart-28c $1.20 Toilet Paner-eSc dozen rolls the opening scenes with an illusion of Aisle 11, Filbert Street tenderness and conveys the idea that the odious Pinkerton' al Puccini's opera of "Madama Butterfly" vas repeated at the Metropolitan Opera House last evening, when the title role vas taken for the first time here by Miss Alice Nielsen, and Mr.

Riccardo Martin again appeared in the character of Pinkerton. Philadelphia has now seen a pood man Madam Butterflys and of these Miss Nielsen is certainly not the least attractive. Her voice has gained con-iiderabJy in volume since it was last heard here, and if it has lost something its pristine freshness and sweetness, it' is still sufficiently agreeable and syni-pathetie and Cio-Cio-San's exacting music was delivered with a large measure of effectiveness. There was some suggestion of effort in the big climax of the first act and it was pretty evident that the singer had no reserve power left, but the tone produced was for the most part adequate, and its delivery smooth and well sustained. On its dramatic side the impersonation was extremely satisfying and praise HARVEY.
