He had lived in Broom-all for 38 years. Mr. Britton worked for more than 20 years as a pumper at the Atlantic Richfield refinery in South Philadelphia, but his retirement in 1973 marked the start of a second vocation. For the next 13 years, he drove a bus for Marple Newtown School District in Delaware County, transporting handicapped children from their homes to the Old Forge School. "He grew so attached to those kids," said his wife of 36 years, Marie Street Britton.

"He loved it. He would have rather driven that bus than the any other. And if we went shopping or something and saw one of the kids, they'd always have to stop and talk to Charlie."
