OBITUARIES Perry Lewis Brand, chief of ad agency By Kenan Heise TRIBUNE STAFF WRITER DEATHS IN McHENRY COUNTY Larry Todd Thorpe Larry Todd. Thorpe, 29, of Harvard died Friday in Harvard. A carpenter, he was also a sergeant in the Air Force from 1985 to 1989. He is survived by his mother, Shirley Millard; his father, Larry Thorpe; a son, Trenton; six brothers and sisters; and his maternal grandparents, George and Nita Wiedenhoeft. Services were held Monday.

John E. Edwards John E. "Jack" Edwards, 85, of Crystal Lake died Jan. 1 in Sherman West Court in Elgin. He was an Army and Navy veteran of World War II and a retired sales engineer for Northern Illinois Gas Co.

He is survived by a daughter, Patricia A. Soltys; a son, J.A.E. Edwards; a brother; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday Flagg Funeral Home, 2 N.

Jackson, 67, of Crystal Lake, formerly of Woodstock, died Jan. 2 at her home. She was a native of Oak Park. She served as a volunteer for the Salvation Army's Golden Diners. She was a cook for Arbor Foods in District 47, and she served as assistant manager for the former State Bank of Woodstock drive-in facility for 11 years.

She is survived by her husband, Ronald; her mother, Rita Hofer; three sons, William, Robert and Jay; a daughter, Aimee Gutek; a brother; a sister; 14 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and one step-greatServices for Mrs. Jackson were held Saturday. Fred May Fred May, 88, of Spring Grove died Jan. 2 in Alden Terrace Nursing Home in McHenry. A lifetime resident of the area, he farmed in the Spring Grove area for many years.

He worked for Nordstrom Construction for 25 years, retiring in 1970, and was a member of the Laborers Union of Lake County. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; two daughters, Janet May and Elizabeth Tesh; four sons, James, Peter, Roger and William; three sisters; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He served in the early 1960s as chairman of the Illinois Area Council of the YMCA and in many other volunteer and charitable positions. A longtime resident of Wilmette, he died in the Hospice of the North Shore in Evanston. Before beginning his Chicago agency in 1970, he had held positions with Campbell-Mithun, Clinton E. Frank Inc. and GriswoldEshleman.

He retired i in 1985. Mr. Brand, an orphan who grew up in West Side foster homes, built on his youthful experiences in many of his charitable efforts. Survivors include his wife, Barbara; a son, Gerald; three daughters, Kelly, Pamela and Susan Ivery; and eight grandchildren. A memorial service will begin at noon Wednesday in Northwestern University's Alice Millar Chapel, 1870 N.
