The opening was again irregular, with more gains than Josses, but thereafter prices of important issues were disposed to recede, with an uneven close. Certain specialties were moderately strong, notably rubber, which made immediate response to Great Britain's renewal of the embargo on crude rubber.

A faw other stocks, chiefly railway division, scored recoveries from the recent declines, but the movement as a whole was without significance. Latest trade reports confirmed those of the early part of the week respecting general improvement, particularly in distributing channels. Attention was drawn to the better state of the steel Industry by the increase of unfilled tonnage for the month of more than tons, again much excess of expectations. London reported more cheerful sentiment, Ficnch treasury bills being well taken. American securities in that market were again inclined to heaviness.

Hoods were relatively firm, Willi larger dealings in several issue advancing pi ices. Total sales represented pur value of Government bonds were unchanged on call. Metals. silver Elcd rely, i copper i -in. Sto-k-.

"What about my order?" demanded the diner. "How soon do I get that halt duck?" "Just as soon as somebody conies in and orders the other hall." was the calm rejoinder of the waiter.
