Associated Prut funds under the Hyde Amendment, which Congress passed to restrict federal payment for abortions to cases in which the mother's life is in danger or the pregnancy results from rape or incest. A federal judge has ordered authorities to resume federal abortion funding Friday.

The Carter administration plans to appeal his ruling to the Supreme Court. The judge, John F. Dooling Jr: of Brooklyn, found, in part, that the Hyde Amendment increased the risk of maternal deaths and caused some women to seek illegal abortions. sex charges penalty of four years in jail and a $10,000 fine. Three boys, aged 12, 14 and 16, testified during the three-day trial that Lonergan had performed various sexual acts with them on several occasions between November 1978 and last June.

Lonergan had admitted fondling the children, but said it was part of his therapy. Testimony revealed that Lonergan had given the boys a variety of favors, including letting them use his houseboat, mini-bike and indoor heated swimming pool. afire in crash drew Dougherty, 25, of Crescentville was driving to work at 2:45 p.m. when he saw Goldman. "The man was screaming.

I jumped out of my car and yelled at him to get down on the ground," Dougherty said. "Flames were shooting at me." Dougherty smothered the flames with a sweatshirt as he rolled on the ground with Goldman. Fire rescue squad members rushed Goldman to St. Agnes, where he was admitted with burns over 60 percent of his body. Dougherty burned his hand during the incident and was treated for a minor injury at Hahnemann Hospital.

The driver of the automobile was not injured. from whom the marijuana had been stolen were going to kidnap him (Little Bruce); so he hid out at a friend's house for a while. The defense attorneys implied that the ambush might have been engineered by the Pottstown drug dealer, and not by Little Bruce's relatives. Yesterday morning, Little Bruce's maternal grandmother, Harriet Stef-fy, broke into tears as she testified about the three occasions in August 1978 when Big Bruce came to her home in Oxford, "huntin" down" her grandson. Little Bruce was transferred from the Chester County Prison to a Lancaster County prison in early August, then released five days before the ambush.

Big Bruce told Mrs. Steffy that his son had given the police "a telephone book full of information" about him, she testified. Big Bruce asked her to tell her grandson that he would pay $12,000 for his son to claim to have been taking drugs when testifying to the grand jury. "He said he'd go get it (the money) and lay it right out here on the dining room table. I said I'd never had that much money around the house, and I'd be afraid to," Mrs.

Steffy said. Both Mrs. Steffy and her sister, Sarah Martin, who raised James Johnston, testified that they became worried about James in mid-August. Previous testimony revealed that James, who was Big Bruce's stepson, had spoken to State Police on Aug. 15 at his stepbrother's urging and was scheduled to testify to the grand jury on Aug.

16. He never appeared, and the prosecution alleges that he was killed then. His body, however, was not discovered until Dec. 30, when Ricky Mitchell, a Johnston associate, led police to the grave in a remote, wooded area. Mrs.

Martin testified that she spoke to Big Bruce by telephone on Aug. 17 Bruce Johnston Jr. takes stand at murder trial, describes ambush JOHNSTON, from l-B that he decided to cooperate with authorities in August 1978 after Robin had written to him that his father and James Sampson had gotten her drunk and taken her to a motel, where she woke up naked the next morning. Little Bruce was sure that they had raped her, and "I was mad," he testified. He said he told the police about a number of tractor thefts he committed with his brother; his stepbrother; the three other men who were killed; his uncle, Norman, and an associate of Bruce Leslie Dale.

Little Bruce said he saw his father only three or four times while growing up because his parents separated when he was an infant. H3 lived with his father briefly in 1975, he said. Then, in 1977, he became associated with his father in a different way. Bruce Jr. testified that he and his father then "started stealin' some things together, tractors, cars, trucks." Authorities have charged that Big Bruce was the ringleader of a burgla-ry ring that grossed $1 million in southeastern Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware between 1969 and 1978.

In questioning by his uncles' defense attorneys, Little Bruce said that in the spring of 1978 his father gave him 100 pounds of marijuana to sell, part of an shipment hijacked by his father and others on its way to a drug dealer in Pottstown. Little Bruce said that when he was at his father's Maryland home that spring, Big Bruce gestured to him to come into the garage, where he saw "bales of marijuana stacked up." He said his father later gave him the 100 pounds, which he sold around southern Chester County, as a payment for driving Big Bruce's truck back from Arizona, where most of the marijuana was sold. Little Bruce testified that he was later told by his father that the men.
