An AIDS activist who spoke at the Republican National Convention was picked Thursday by Miss America LEANZA CORNETT for the pageant's $50,000 Woman of Achievement Award. MARY FISHER, a Florida artist who has the virus that causes AIDS, urged an end to partisan politics in the search for a cure. She also called during her convention speech last year for greater tolerance of people with AIDS. "I'm honored and grateful for the award," said Fisher, the mother of two.
