The Commanding Oncer of the Department Of Virginia baa issued an order requiring all the publishers of newspapers in tbe State to wad a copy of every issue to bis headquarters, by mail, on tbe day of publication. Fmi are attracted daily to Xaxkriter's, 456 7th street, to see a picture on shibition there, painted by U. A noblelooking woman occupies tbe foreground by the coucb of a wounded soldier, for whom sbe has just written a letter to his toyed ones at home, and to whom 'be is now giving religious consolation. The faithful dog of tbe wounded soldier, with bead laid upon the blanket and eyes fixed lovingly and anxiously on his mas.

On the left, a matronly looking woman is supplying a wouaded cavalryman with a bowl of coffee as dm wen already noticed, the events of the war, though abounding in effective subjects for the pencil, have thus far brought ont few really meritorious pictures.
