The Committee on Supplies met at 1 o'clock, and recommended the use of the same supplies as formerly used, with some few additions.

At 4 o'clock the Committee on Night Schools met. The session was taken up mainly in the consideration of the re ports or average attenaance at ine various i nignt scnoois, ami tne dismissal ana appointment of several teachers. In the matter, of the A. S. Jenks School It was reported that fifty-eight pupils bad been registered.

It was decided to allow two assistants to the principal, Miss McLaughlin. Of these Dr. Wiley nominated one. Miss Cannon, whom the committee Instructed the Kecretnrv to notify to renort for duty on Monday night next. The secre-1 tary was also instructed to request Mr.

uel-rates, member or tne Hoard or lt.au-cation from the Thirty-ninth Section, to hand In the name of another. Mr. Merchant, of the sub-Committee oa Graded Night Schools, recommended that the salaries of three of the teachers, Misses Scott, Schroeder and Coburn, date from October 10. and those of Misses Johnson and Hudson from October 17. the recommendation was adopted.

It was- also recommended by the sub-conniiittee thnt the graded school at Thirty-sixth and Chestnut streets, be transferred to Forty-sixth street and Woodland uveuue, the location being considered better ndapted for such purposes. Considerable was Indulged in regarding the reports of registration and attendance in the graded Some of the members of the committee seemed to feel that the sub-committee were taking more upon themse'ves than their powers as members permitted. The question arose from the fact that no reports of any kind had been made to the whole committee, and nothing was known regarding the condition of any of the five schools excepting the Hart School, In the Thirty-first Section. After it had been explained that with this one exception none of the schools were equipped for instructions, the secretary was instructed to notify the principals to make weekly re- Corts to the committee on regular report hinks. TR00PERS'REUNI0N Captain Groome's Men Assemble at the Armory for Master Out The reunion scenes enacted at the armory of Battery A on Thursday were even more pronounced yesterday at the armory of the First Troop.

Philadelphia City Cavalry. The sixty-day furlough had expired and all of the troopers but six, who were sick, reported for examination and ready to be mustered out. The men had iiot met since they returned to the city two months ago. The members from out of the) city who enlisted for the war were all here and met their comrades. Captain Groome was greeted with a rousing reception, as were many of the other members of the troop who came near losing their lives through disease contracted in Porto Klco.

Major Herman Bergln, of the Reference Board, was assisted In the examinations by Dr. G. F. M. Leidy.

Dr. Wnlter Roberts and Dr. Joseph Spelissy. The examinations were all completed last evening. The men will be paid off next Wednesday or Thursday, and in all the trcop will be paid about $iKMK), having received no money since July.

The future of the organization Is yet unsettled and will not be determined until the reorganization of the National Guard. The First City Troop Is one of the oldest cavalry organizations In the country and the men are certain of remaining in the guard. The members of Battery A have all returned to their homes to wait until Tuesday next at 11.80 o'clock, when the paymaster will hand them their pay for August, September, October and the half of November. About 10,000 will be paid to the artillerymen. Mr. Young answered by wire requesting tho. iu authority to ship the body mi, only to find that had already been buried.

Mr. Young called at the yuarteruiastfs Department yesterday, and made complaint. Ancient Methods in Use The British island of Tasmania, lying south of Australia, is very rich in mineral deposits. The Philadelphia Commercial Museum, basing its opinion on exclusive reports from that country, believes that there are opportunities for the sale of American mining machinery in that colony, if proper efforts are made to secure the trade. A report from the representatives of the museum at Kobart. Tasmania, bearing date of September 16, asserts that for its size. Tasmania passesses a greater number and variety of mines and minerals than any other country, and he says that the market for nil kinds of mining machinery and requisites is a growing one and likely to be comparatively extensive.

Mining lamps are not in general use. Candles are still the method of lighting the mines. Dressed Like a. Soldier William.
