Joseph Hagenmayer INQUIRER SUBURBAN STAFF Kathleen Dotson-Waller, 41, who battled sickle-cell anemia for much of her life while striving to become a doctor, died of complications from the disease last Monday at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. She had lived in Pennsauken for more than six years. She previously resided in Camden, where she was born and raised, and graduated from Camden High School in 1976.

Dr. Dotson-Waller had resumed her medical residency at Lankenau Hospital in Philadelphia despite her disease. "We were worried about whether she would be able to do it, but she was determined," said Clifford Pem-berton, program director for internal medicine at Lankenau. "She was a good resident and worked very hard." Although the disease interfered with her studies, she would return to her duties after each new bout until the final episode began about C.L. Nzinga Metzger, her niece and godchild, said: "She persevered and completed medical school with the help of God and her family in spite of medical, financial and racial obstacles." After graduating from medical school, Dr. Dotson-Waller began her internship at Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia, but was forced by her illness to stop for a time.

During the interim, she worked as an advocate for abused women at Providence House in Willingboro. Previously, Dr. Dotson-Waller's concern for inner-city youth led her to work as a volunteer counselor for the Camden County juvenile-justice system and as a tutor for Camden youths studying for their high school equivalency degrees. She received a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of daily newspapers, including The Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News. Born in Akron, he was stricken with polio as a child.

Mr. Knight spent his early adult years as a journalist starting as a police reporter at the Port Huron Times Herald in Michigan. He later became assistant Sunday editor and assistant picture editor at the Detroit Free Press. He interrupted his newspaper career for a stab at political life, making an unsuccessful bid for Congress in 1954 while living in Detroit. years, William C.

He had lived in Cherry Hill for the last five years and previously was a longtime Maple Shade resident. He was born and raised in Philadelphia. Mr. Press worked out of Carpenters and Joiners Union Local 122 in Philadelphia for 40 years before retiring in 1990. A Navy veteran of World War II, he served as a seaman first class.

He was a communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church in Maple Shade. Mr. Press is survived by his companion, Mary P. Robinson; sons Robert T. Jr.

He eventually became president of Portage Newspaper Supply Co. of Akron, selling printing and graphic arts supplies to newspapers. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia.

Mr. Badowski, who also used a shortened version of his name, Bad-ow, was born in Camden and graduated from Simon Gratz High School in Philadelphia. During World War II, he was a supervisor at the Midvale Steel Co. in Philadelphia. After the war Jid through the 1950s, Mr.

Badowski owned several restaurants and sandwich shops, including the Sea Spray and a beachfront grill near the boardwalk in Wildwood, N.J. In the East Oak Lane section of Philadelphia, he had a snack shop and sandwich shop that was popular with schoolchildren. In 1962, Mr. Badowski went to work for the Brass Rail which has headquarters in New York. He managed the company's food-production service divisions in Philadelphia.

In 1967, he became the food-production manager for the Albert Einstein Medical Center Northern Division. He retired in 1982. Mr. Badowski was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Father Devlin Council 9980. His wife of 50 years, Marcella Diffin Badowski, died in 1999.

Mr. Badowski is survived by daughters, Sally Ann Badow and Susan B. Fluehr; and two grandchildren. Friends may call at 10 a.m. today at St.

KNIGHT RIDDER NEWS SERVICE AKRON, Ohio Charles Landon Knight 2d, 75, the last surviving son of Knight Ridder Newspapers founder John S. Knight, died Saturday at a nursing home. Mr. Knight had undergone lung-cancer surgery on Feb.

9 and then suffered a stroke on Feb. 18. He contracted pneumonia last week. Known worldwide as a breeder of championship thoroughbred race horses, Mr. Knight retired as president of Portage Newspaper Supply, a subsidiary of Knight Ridder, in 1981.

Knight Ridder publishes 31 In the Region Mildred R. Mann Secretary and model, 89 Mildred R. Mann, 89, a former advertising agency secretary who modeled for many of the agency's ads, died Thursday at her home at Normandy Farms Estates in Blue Bell. Mrs. Mann worked for the N.

W. Ayer Advertising agency for 10 years and appeared in many of the ads published in Ladies Home Journal and other publications. Born in Philadelphia, she graduated from Frankford High School. She also was a member of the Philadelphia Music Club. She was a 50-year member of the Manufactures Golf and Country Club bridge team, serving at times as chairwoman and captain of the women's duplicate bridge team.

She also belonged to the Women's Bridge League of Philadelphia. Mrs. Mann was a member of the Chestnut Hill Presbyterian Church and was active in the church's women's association and bazaar for many years. She was a charter member of the Erdenheim Women's Club. Her hobbies included square dancing, painting, pottery, and making silver jewelry and stained glass.

She traveled extensively with her husband and took many cruises, including to the South Pacific. She is survived by her husband, George W. Mann; her daughters, Connie Mann Detrick and Susan Mann O'Connell; four grandchildren; and a brother. A service will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Normandy Farms Estates, on Morris Road just north of Route 202 in Blue Bell.

Mary Caroline Parham Devoted to church, 69 Mary Caroline Parham, 69, a dedicated church member, died of cancer Feb. 27 at Temple University Hospital. She lived in Mount Airy, Mrs.

Parham was a 14-year member of New Covenant Church in Mount Airy, serving in the morning prayer ministry, the women's ministry, the Jubilee Choir and other groups. Born in Petersburg, she moved to Philadelphia shortly after high school. She worked as a seamstress, then went back to school to study data entry and word processing, and later worked for Meridian Bank. Mrs. Parham was deeply religious, according to her family, and enrolled in Deliverance Evangelistic Bible Institute, receiving A's in 34 out of 35 courses taken.

Her biblical instruction continued until she fell ill. Surviving are her husband of 46.
