la thia city, September I3th, lo tne wit; of Mr. J. Terry, a daughter. Jool l-portlri. Tb t7e Alitor tf the Pacific Cvmrnercinl Advertiser: Dkar Sir On several occasions I have seen in jonr paper of late, accounts of lh pood shooting lone on thU IsUad, by some of the famed sportsmen of this town, with regard to the number of birds that have been killed, and tbe skill ct bringing them down.

As I had the opportunity of see ing last wcck a trial ol taia kunu or spori oy one ol tbe porternen cf this town, and being so well i pfeasea and greatly surprised at the same I take nliSdanri In aemllnre wmr sit ftCCOnnt Of trie Tier oleasare in send in it you formance as it occurred. Mr. Park and myself were fariVed by one of our friend at Koolau to upend a week, wita Lira, which we accepted. I told Park' I would relish few roast docks while out there; and Induced him to take his gun and dog along. Vt'e left here on Monday, and returned the iollowinSuturday.

rode out on our horses a Lantlr fart of Lree days, and killed in all twenty-four flu oka, killing: each day as many as we wanted and no more. I will now describe tbe performance of the doj and tbe manner in which be is trained. We commenced by ridin; along the edge of the swamps, the dog taking the lead, at tbe distance of thlty or forty yard, stopping at every rod or two, scenting the ground to windward Aa soon as he took scent hi game, he would stop suddenly, look back to his ninster. then move on a few yards cantiously la the direction r-f tire game, then make a full stand, and wait fur Li master to come up to him. Now is the time for excitement between the and LU tto.

and I must say I felt no small share of it mjelf. as I coiwd sit on my horse ana look uown upon iDem irom me uign grouna LbAtaudUwu remarkable see tb don draw so slow and so cautiously in a uirect Mp to the birds, occasionally turning his bead and looking behind him to see that lis mailer was close at hand. On they so together, the dog in fear of flushing the birds, and tbe master la fear of not getting a shot at them. In tbia way I have seen them go on ad is- i tard or loo wken tbe ilocfsetiiokT as close seemingly a be dare go. corner to a farm stand and will no further, me master men sieps lor- ward boldly, knowing he close upon the game, puu them np himself by advancing a few steps, and gives them a chance lor their lives, uut poor i the chance when he brings hs piece to his shoulder and lets cfT right and lelt barrels, so cool and deliberately, w'ub snch well-directed aim.

The first shot be got and tbe first we fonnd. wa3 a pair of ducks, put up as described above, was brought and in this manner was the sport roiiowei up. nntu seven double hoL' and eight single ones were made ia sucehm, iilling 22 dncks in all. without miM-j inzone. The next that was put op was a donble shot, and as fair as any we had, but be killed with 1 tbe Ira and misled with tbe second barrel, as the second tlUCK went riftnt in me gurcui iue iDurnui ro i bound to shoot at every duck that waa covered sun was bv the dc Z.

let the chances he what tbey may. Th'n 14 tbe first mias making 23 shots, double and single lance, killinz every bird dead except two. which I fellatashortdistancrwwonnded. What Is remark- able concerning the dog Is, he needed no correction, Not a word was spoken to bim while doing hw wo rk. he coming and going, moving to the right and left by theluotlon of hU master's hand.

I have seen many splendid dog elsewhere, lut none so well trained, doiog bis work so willingly and so sure as the one above described. This is lbs Crst opportunity I have had of seeing any sport of this kind daring my residence here, and 1 can assure you, Mr. Kditor, that my pleijuro on tbU little trip was so much enhanced by it, ai well as the feasting npon sacs delicious game every day, that the next opportunity that offers that I can conveniently leave with my agreeable friend Park and bis dog. I shall most certainly embrace it. M.

In tho manage ment of the Hospital, the idea has been kept constantly in view that it was established primarily and as far as possible exclusively for the benefit of the native race. Only at the last meeting of tho Board of Trustees, the subject was under discussion as to whether the Government cannot lc induced to make some provision for the relief of the. class of foreigners refctred to as the paupers a class which, though not at present bo numerous as has been represented, yet is likely in the futare to force upon the public attention the subject of an alms-house.

Le Temps, a Paris journal, discredits the authenticity of Dr. Livingstone's letters recently published by the New York Herald. It quotes the opinion of Kiepert, the German geographer, who discovers several geographical blunders in the letters and thinks that Stanley invented part of the narrative, and even goes so far as to hint that perliaps Stanley never saw Livingstone. Now this is too bad. Put us Americans will require considerable proof before wo believe tint Stanley's expedition was a fraud.
