Chicago Tribune, Wednesday, July 12, 1995 Section 8 45 PalatlnaLaka Zurich Getting a lack out of reading Library assistant encourages youth to pick up a book By Jody Temkin Special to the Tribune When Mary Beth Campe was a child, she never thought about becoming a librarian. She loved the excitement of discovering new books at the library, but the idea of sitting behind one of those desks was far short of exciting. "There was such a stigma to being a librarian," says Campe, who has completely reversed her view of the profession. "This is really fun work." Whenever we need someone to do something, she volunteers." Campe also initiated a program this summer for one of the toughest patron groups: junior high pupils. At that age, she says, going to the library is thought to be "uncooL" Campe is trying an approach she calls the Lunch Bunch Junior High Discussion Group. Junior high pupils meet at the library, 700 N. North Ct, for an hour on two Wednesdays in July. Each is asked to bring a book to share with the group and lunch. Campe also brings a book to discuss. "I went to the supervisors and said I wanted to do this," she says. "It's a hard area to program for, but I hope we can bring in some kids for this. I'd just like them to bring in whatever books they're excited Continued on Page 46 YOUR AFFORDABLE KITCHEN & BATH REMODELER FOR 30 YEARS j .. 5? i i il I ill'1 1 MUilfpJr ' ; v - vi We Do It All From Ceiling To Floor WE CARRY DURA SUPREME- KITCHEN CRAFT- MERILLAT- CUSTOM CABINETRY INSTALLATION SERVICES COMPUTER DESIGN SERVICES AVAILABLE EXPERT REFACING OVER 100 DOOR STYLES TO CHOOSE FROM REPLACEMENT WINDOWS AVAILABLE Come To The Corner For Quality & Affordability KITCHEN & BATH CORNER 300 W.
