Father Callahan graduated from Framingham High School in Massachusetts and Fairfield University in Connecticut. He entered the Jesuit order at Shadowbrook in Lenox, in 1959 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1969.

He earned philosophy and theology degrees from Boston College and served on its executive committee of the board of trustees. 60077. For Info; 847-256-5700. SILBAR Ira Israel Silbar, died July 24, at Regina Pioneer Village nursing home in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. He had recently turned 91 He was born in Milwaukee. April 9.

1906, and lived most of his life in Chicago, but had emigrated to Canada in 1990, residing in Regina. Saskatchewan. Ira was a lawyer who continued to practice into his 80s and a political activist who never lost his sense of outrage against injustice or his analytical view of local and world events. He was one of six children ot Isaac "Ike'' and Ida Silbar (originally Silbennan), immigrants from Eastern Europe. He was the last surviving ot these siblings, having been predeceased by his brother Herman (Ruth), Harry (Rose).

Jack, all Silbar, and Orville (Mac), Steward (Ethel), and sister Ruth (Tom) Fishbein. Except for Herman, who moved to Cleveland as a young man, all these siblings had remained in the Milwaukee area. Ira was also predeceased by his nephews Raymond. David and Jack Silbar and nieces Maxine Silbar Klett and Shirley Fishbein Marcado. He is survived by his former wife, Leah Silbar of Chicago: daughter llya Margoshes and her husband Dave, ot Regina; son Earl, former daughter-in-law Cleo Wilson and grandson David, all of Chicago, and granddaughter Suzy, of New York City, as well as nephews Fred (Cheryl) Fishbein of Milwaukee.

Eldred (Lorraine) Fishbein of Arizona, Zan (Blossom) Skolnick of Skokie. IL; niece Irene Silbar of Menonomee Fails. Wl. and her children Pamela and John; niece Gail Skolnick of Chicago, and numerous other grandneph-ews and grandnieces. Ira attended Marquette University and Law School in Milwaukee and received his law degree (L from Chicago Kent Law' School in 1932.

He was a member of the National Lawyers Guild throughout his career. He was in private practice for many years on Chicago Southside, spent several years as a public defender in the 70s and concluded his 58-year career with the Chicago law firm of Pom-per and Associates. He was active in numerous progressive causes until the end of his career and beyond He also had a lifelong love affair with learning, and took many adult education classes at the University of Chicago Late in his life, his greatest pleasure was the classes he took at the University of Regina Seniors' Education Centre and the many friends he made there. Donations may be made in Ira memory to the University of Regina Seniors' Education Centre, Regina, S4S 0A2 Canada.
