12-Evening News, Port Angeles, Wednesday, July 23, 1969 Representatives Moxine Doubek 385-2335 No wind, eiffier Sailing ship towed after engine trouble PORT TOWNSEND The Coast Guard Cutter Point Bennett went to the assistance of the "Monte Cristo," 138-foot, three- masted barque, which found herself without power or radio Tuesday morning. En route to Fort Townsend, the vessel lost her clutch in the auxiliary engine and, in spite of carrying 8,500 feet of canvas, was drifting with the tide. A heavy fog blanketed the area ing the night and there was no wind. A passing pleasure craft without a radio passed the word of the vessel's situation the Murray II, which, in turn, notified the Coast Guard. The Point Bennett took the craft in tow just off of Point Wilson and towed her into the Port Boat Haven.

The course ended with a four-hour shelter stay. DeLeo was among 17 others from Washington state. He finished with a 92.5 grade average. Employed with Cascade Ambulance Service, has been assigned to the Jefferson County Civil Defense staff as a shelter management instructor.

Special weekend events planned PORT TOWNSEND The Port Townsend Summer School of the Arts will wind up its last week of classes with a weekend of special events. The climax of the youth program will be a dance and drama festival Saturday and Sunday at 2-4 p.m. at the Port Townsend Dancers under the direction of Winifred Eldridge will present two ballets. Elmer Adams has assumed the duties of superintendent of the Quilcene Public Schools. He succeeds Rieger who has taken up residence in Concrete. Adams comes from Lahore, West Pakistan, where he was curriculum director of the American Schools for the past two years. Prior to that, he served as associate professor of education and English at Linfield College at McMinnville, for eight years. Dr.

Adams has had extensive experience as a teacher, high school principal and superintendent in Washington schools. He has also spent five years in India where he was head of the Department of Education at And- hra Christian College inGuntur, Andhra Pradesh. He and his wife have been residing in Sequim. False alarms mean danger PORT TOWNSEND The Port Townsend Fire Department rolled equipment to two false alarms. The first call was Sunday at 7:45 p.m. A fire was reported in the basement of the Lincoln Grade School.

The second call came Monday at 6:30 p.m. when it was report. ed that the Girl Scout House in the 700 block of Tyler Street was burning. Assistant Fire Chief Ed Lindsey pointed out that when equip. ment and men are called out on a false alarm there is always the danger that a legitimate call will come into the fire hall and firemen will be delayed.

He also pointed out thatvolun- teer firemen are endangeredun- necessarily while answering these false alarms. The drama department of the youth program will present a one-act play, "Under the Milk- wood," by Dylan Thomas, directed by Jackie Greening and assisted byChrlsPeccioni. Miss Greening is a graduate student of the University of Washington and has taken special study in children's IN ADDITION TO THE youth program festivities, there will be an art exhibit and sale sponsored by the adult studsnts and faculty at the art building at Point Hudson on July 25-27 from 2-5 p.m. The summer theatre under the direction of Gene Keene of the Cirque Theatre will continue through Labor Day. Each Thursday-Saturday sees a full-fledged production at the Point Hudson Theatre with a new play being introduced every two weeks.

The coming weekend will see the final production of "Never Too Late'' and it will be followed by "Mary, Mary," "Take Her, She's Mine" and "The First Fish." Keene uses professional Cirque Players in the lead roles and relies on students and local citizens for supporting casts. Residents invited to talk over tolls PORT TOWNSEND August 15 has been set as a date for a meeting in Port Angeles todis- cuss bridge tolls and ferry financing, according to Frank Erb, chairman of the Jefferson County Labor Coordinating Committee. A study on ferry finances is now being made by state authorities. Recently, Governor Dan Evans stated that a deficit of $1,500,000 is indicated.
