But, worst of all, you may be condemned to watch this movie a couple of times.

"Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh is a sequel to 1992's "Candyman," a surprisingly effective horror movie adapted by writer-director Bernard Rose from Clive Barker's short story "The Forbidden." Set in the present What, for instance? Well. among other thinss. dark ansrv bogeymen with deadly hooks may suddenly appear straight from the bowels of infernal darkness and start running amok. His soul trapped in a mirror in which he watches himself die, the Candyman is now available for frequent Freddy Krueger-style bloodlettings throughout the centuries whenever anyone is silly enough to chant his name. Rose's movie, set in Cabrini Green and other Chicago sites, had a chilling nightmare clarity and weird humor. This movie, set in New Orleans, is simply weird and murky. Executive-produced by Clive Barker and based on his story but not written or directed by him it's hyperactive, labored and afflicted with so much bad acting that it's almost as if the "A Gripping, Psychological Puzzle!" --s A if- Tony Todd menacingly pursues the heroine, Kelly Rowan, in "Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh." curse of Troy Donahue had settled on everyone. Director Bill Condon can barely keep his camera still; perhaps he's trying to escape.

The script is the usual farrago about an invincible monster slaughtering everyone while pursuing the heroine (Kelly Rowan as Annie Tarrant) with what seems unusual patience and discretion. Barker, who wasn't involved with the earlier "Candyman," has never yet matched his stunning 1987 writer-director debut "Hellraiser" and he never will if he keeps coming up with projects like this. (Sometimes, instead of raising hell in his later movies, he seems to be going to it.) But whatever else happens, you'll definitely save yourself some grief if you just keep from repeating "Candyman, Candyman" over and over while staring into a mirror. Or while staring at this movie. lSlV I "Shocking And Seductive!"
