SATURDAY. DEC. DAY OF 77-DAV WINTER MEETING. jvz uuaranree 1 From Times Wire Services It was billed as "Son of Guaranteed Win Night" Friday evening at Landover, but again the Washington Capitals failed to produce a victory. For the second time this season, the Washington management was offering every ticket holder a free ticket to a future game if the Capitals tied or lost.

The first "Guaranteed Win Night" ended in a 3-1 loss to Los Angeles and Friday the Capitals and Minnesota North Stars played to a 1-1 tie. The tie left the hapless Capitals with a 3-27-5 record. Washington is winlcss in its last 13 games dating back to Nov.26. Gregg Sheppard scored twice and Brad Park picked up three assists as the visiting Boston Bruins degeated Buffalo, 6-3, to move within two points of the Sabres in Division 4. The Bruins, trailing 3-1 after one period, tallied three times in the middle 20 minutes with Jean Ratelle and Wayne Cashman scoring on power plays and Sheppard getting his second of the game on a shot in front of tie net.

The Atlanta Flames continued their fine play by edging visiting Pittsburgh, 4-3, as Curt Bennett led the way with two goals and an assist. The victory gave the Flames a 10-2-2 mark in their last 14 games. Bruins 6, Sabres 3 Hollywood Juvenile Championship. He is a partner with Reeva Grown, a North Hollywood restaurant owner. Victory in the Breeders' Championship was worth $33,450.

The 2-year-old son of Olympiad. King and Boquet of Roses was bred by Mrs. Connie Ring at her Three Rings Ranch. He has now earned a total of $83,350 for winning five of his seven races. Before Steiger became a partner in the colt, he won the Cabrillo and Westchester Stakes at Hollypark and the Sir Francis Drake Stakes at Golden Gate.

Although the defeat was a disappointment for Savalas and his partner, Howard W. Koch, Telly's Pop picked up a $10,000 check for second to increase his earnings to $258,870. Stained Glass, a strong second choice in the wagering, paid $7.80 for his win in the feature. Pincay scored a $5.20 win with Getaway Terresto in the third race to start his double. Charlie Whittingham, only $28,706 away from the world record for money won by a trainer in a year, will start an entry of El Rey, Crumbs and the French import, Riot in Paris, in today's San Gabriel Handicap.

The late Eddie Neloy set the record of $2,456,250 in 1966. BY BION ABBOTT Times Stall Writer Rod Steiger got into the act Saturday and stole the scene from Telly Savalas as Stained Glass upset heavily-favored Telly's Pop in the $55,950 California Breeders' Champion Stakes before 30,686 fans at Santa Anita. Actually, Laffit Pincay was the star of the show, making the winning move by sending Stained Glass into an unbeatable three-length lead at the top of the stretch. The victory capped a double for who started the season Friday with a triple. Stained Glass, under left-handed urging from Pincay through the stretch, went under the wire in 1:22 15 to equal the stakes record established by Bold Joey in 1970.

It was too much by XA lengths for Telly's Pop, who staged a tremendous Silky Sullivan-like finish just to be second. The 2-5 favorite dropped back to last and nearly 10 lengths off the leaders in the opening quarter, then lost a good deal of ground turning extremely wide into the stretch. Telly's Pop made up two lengths on Stained Glass through the stretch but halfway home it was obvious he would never overtake the winner. It was six lengths back at the fin-' ish to the third horse, Real Hot, which closed steadily to beat El Jam by a length. Shikey's Leo kept up with the leaders for a half-mile before fading to fifth, eight lengths behind El Jam.

Park Nambiorix brought up the rear. Pincay kept Stained Glass with El Jam through a :22 15 opening quarter and a :44 45 half mile, then started to pull away at the top of the far turn and was safely in front with his six furlongs in 1:09 25. This was the first race for Stained Glass since July 20 when he finished sixth as a favorite in the Hollywood Juvenile Championship. He was then taken out of competition because of bucked shins. "I thought he mignY be a little short today," Pincay said, "and he did begin to get late near the end.

I think he has improved since last summer when I rode him at Hollywood Park." And so Steiger, who has joined the growing cast of Hollywood personalities in horse racing, now has a perfect record in the business. Stained Glass is his first horse and Saturday's feature was his first race. Steiger purchased a half interest in the colt shortly after his defeat in the WHA Highlights ALL FINISHES CONFIRMED BY OFFICIAL PHOTOCHART CAMERA. A Q1 ft-FIRST RACE-SIX FURLONGS. J-ytarolds A up.

TELLY'S POP steadied while being shuffled back shortly Iter the break, dropped well back, found his full stride near the tar turn, checked when again in close quarters, moved clear outside, came extremely wide to the quarter pole while closing ground, settled into the stretch to Close but could not make up the lost yardage.

REAL HOT lacked early speed and improved his position in the drive. EL JAM shared the early lead, saved ground to get the lead then weakened in the drive. SKIKEV'S LEO showed early spaed and laded. PARK NAMBIORIX faltered on the turn. alQ 1 NINTH RACE-ONE MILE.
