Of the 21 new series next year, 13 were selected from pilots never shown to the or from projects without a pilot. At least 30 pilots were broadcast and only eight were -among the new shows on the new schedules.

NBC aired 19 pilots and picked only four. Those selected weren't always those with the highest ratings. Some of the' pilots that didn't make it did quite well in the ratings, including "Partners in Crime," "Genesis II," "The Bait," "Call to Danger" and "The Stranger." Train service on the elevated line ended at midnight Saturday and a fleet of 60 air conditioned express busses was substituted.
