GREENVILLE, THURSDAY. JUNE 19,1958 Courthouse Chatter By MARGUERITE NIXON weren't many cases for the June jury panel to decide, but selecled for the Tim case felt they had earned their and the seven dollar-a-day fee. The gruelling seven-day trial, which lasted until 10 o'clock Tuea- day night, saw the jurors in their box every weekday at 9:30, and they usually stayed until adjournment at 4 p. m. One man had a bad moment when he was handed a telephone message.

His child was to undergo an his immediate conclusion was that 4- something went wrong. operation the same day and However, the juror, Bill Richardson, of near Grove City, didn't worry long. The message said his cows were "out." He learned later they weren't even his cows. They belonged to his father. If wisdom and maturity are synonomus, the seven male jurors load the edge on the fairer sex.

Five of them were in their 70s with Mercerite Will Magner, the dean of them all at 79. However, the men also excelled in the opposite extreme. George Abernathy, of Hickory, a furloughed youngster from Westinghouse, is just 23. Needless to say, the five women's didn't come anywhere near the ages of the men. In fact, one grandmother on the jury didn't even look to be in her middle age.

There were many interested spectators at the trial, including Mike Cusick, nephew of sender defense counsel Martin Cusick. Young Cusick, who just completed Ms first year at Diekenson Law School in Carlisle, brought along Ms fiance, Shirley Lyons. Another promising youngster, David McKay, son of the trial judge, followed the case carefully. He isn't planning to follow his illustrious father and his older brother, Donald. He's looking forward to a career in medicine.

He is a sophomore at Allegheny College and president of his class. The Farrell trial took the limelight away from the other courtroom where Judge Herman M. Rodgers presided. The cases in there were disposed of more rapidly, but they had their share of interest. For one thing, Marc Marks, junior member of law firm his father founded, was special assistant district attorney.

TMs was because Ed Bell, the regular assistant, was at John Stranahan's side during the Tdm- paro trial. An embarrassing' situation almost came up in No. 1 court. Attorney Ben Marks was due to defend a client, which would have pitted father against son. To alleviate this, Donalds McKay was slated to tak over prosecution, but fate' stepped in and settled the whole thing without the help of a jury.

Three juries in Judge Rodgers' court returned guilty pleas. The defendants were John Edward Fenton, 8 Quarry Street, Greenville, convicted on a morals charge; Robert Gail Shreffler, R. D. 6, Greenville, found guilty of indecent assault, and Mrs. Hazel Fleming, R.

D. 1, Grove City, pronounced guilty of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The jury recommended leniency in Mrs. Fleming's case. Foremen of these less illustrious but equally important cases were Kenneth J.

Kolto, R. D. 5, Mercer; Victor Sirb, Sharon, and Frank J. Lovesky, Greenville. Sirb, a bartender, did double duty this term.

He not only acted as a regular juror, but war called to the stand in the Timparo trial. The courthouse sent flowers for the funeral of Mrs. Ralph Tanner, of Butler County, who died earlier this week. Her daughter, Madeline Mars, is one of the tax assessment clerks.
