New firearms class starting The 78th class of firearms instruction wound up Saturday night at the city police station. The class Is open to youths up to the age of 18 years and has been given since Dec. 1957 by the police department.

Officer Virgil G. Bishop said there are 32 youths in this class. Each class takes about six hours of instruction on the safe way to handle flrearms 0 A written examination is given at the end of each instruction period and a certificate is issued to those who pass. The next class will begin next Thursday. Interested youths may sign up for the course at the police station.

This senior class float took 1st place tathe parade. The sophomore class float "Flower Drum Song," not pictured, took second place. Klnney, principal of Roosevelt Junior High, is chairman of the Education Division for the United Good Neighbors this year. He was born in North Dakota but received all of his education in Washington State. He attended grade school and high school in Marysville. He is a graduate of Central Washington College, and did graduate work at the University of Washington and Central. He first taught in Sequim.

From there he went to Mannheim, Germany, for two years, He was principal of an elementary school in manyj for a year and then returned to Port Angeles where he taught at Roosevelt, was principal at Dry Creek, principal at Stevens Junior High for four years, and now is principal of Roosevelt Junior High. Kinney is a member of the Kiwanls Club, past president of the North Olympic Principal's Association, and has been on the Girl Scout Camp Committee for a number of years, His hobby, on which he has done extensive research, is bees. This is his first year with United Good Neighbors, He and his wife, Beverly, reside at Cedar Park tracts, Local news CHAMBER SPEAKER Speaker at Monday's Chamber of Commerce meeting will be Alfred Larson of Everett, Larson is a member of the governor's commission on aging. His topic will be "attracting retired persons to this area," DAIRY ASSESSMENTS Dairy assessment rates may be raised effective Jan. 1.

The Washington Dairy Commission is recommending to producers that the assessment rates be increased from cents per pound of butter fat in cream and 3 cents per 100 pounds of whole milk to one cent and four cents respectively. A referendum is set for November. Ballots and instructions will be mailed Oct. 29. Votes will be counted 16 through 18 in Olympia by the State Director of Agriculture.

If 51 per cent of the producers vote for the increase, the commission will take necessary steps to change the rates, FISH KILLED All fish in a fishpond at 222 S. Vine were killed when someone put gasoline into the water, according to owner Stanley Smith, when he reported the incident to city police Friday. SHORT TRIP City police apprehended five Juveniles after they sole a 1959 sedan belonging to Janice Thompson, 908 Georgiana Friday night. The vehicle had been reported stolen about 10 minutes after it was taken and city police stopped the vehicle shortly after the report was received. Two Juveniles took off on foot over the bluff at Hollywood Beach, but were rounded up by three policemen.

Monday, St. west of city limits; Tuesday, Peabody St. to east city limits below the Boulevard; Wednesday, Peabody west to Gear St. below the Boulevard; Thursday, south of the Boulevard and Friday, school zones within the city. No warnings will be issued by the radai' officers for violations of city speed laws.

Citizens are advised that general speed laws of the city are 25 mph unless posted otherwise. School zones are 20 mph when school is in session. Citizens may call the Chief of Police at any time to request radar use in their neighborhoods. Area obituaries Clifford I. Fuller Clifford Irvine Fuller, 87, of City Center Trailer Court, died Friday after a short illness.

Funeral services were held Saturday at Harper's Funeral Home. Rev. James Ledbeter of. ficlated with burial following in Angeles Cemetery. Mr.

Fuller was born Sept. 19, 1878, at Shell Lake, Wis. He worked as a carpenter during his life, moving to Port Ange. les from Canada in 1924. His wife Sadie Fuller died here in 1953.
