i rri Lassen County Times Renaissance Faire here this weekend i Vi. i i t-W Vfi A Its ii i-i mi UU LI LZ3 1 I WE HAVE THOUSANDS OF TIRES AT 1984 PRICES! WE HAVE TOO MANY ITEMS TO ADVERTISE THEM COME IN TODAY AND SAVE Saturday and give a demonstration of ring tilting and "Beheading the Saracen." Both they and their horses will be in fancy dress. They would like to recruit some local riders to help out. For that information, call Helen Brown, 257-6744. All weekend long there will also be our wandering Bard, the Greenville Recorder Society, demonstrations of blacksmithing, sword and shield fighting, and belly dancing.

Of course there will also be food and craft merchants aplenty! The pickpocket contest is back this year, with prizes for individual efforts on Saturday, and teams of 1-5 on Sunday. (Everybody coming into the Faire is given a ribbon. Pickpockets try to steal as many ribbons as possible.) There will be a costume contest for men and women. Store-bought division on Saturday and home-made on Sunday. Amateur belly dancing, archery, chess and backgammon contests will be featured, with handsome prizes in all divisions.

1 X) 7 Lassen College will hold its annual Renaissance Faire on May 18 and 19 in the center of the campus. Hours are: 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. There is an admission fee per car or free to people in costume. A well-made, authentic costume is a joy to see, but organizers said you don't have to be fancy for just one weekend. "Gypsy costumes are fun, with bright colors and lots of jewelry," said Helen "That long skirt or caftan that you never wear outside is just fine.

A puffy sleeved shirt, worn with the tails outside the pants and belted, is good too. You can press an old tablecloth or sheet into service by cutting a hole in the middle for the head. Slip it on, then stand with your arms out while a friend makes a cut from the middle of the side to just under the armpit. Sew up the sleeve and side seam. Wear it belted." There should be some exciting entertainment over the weekend, according to fair organizers.
