THE JOURNAL-NEWS, THURSDAY, JUNE 28, 1 973 3D Brewers blank Pearl River SENIOR BABE RUTH The Brewers won their first game, 3-1, over Nanuet, and since then no opposing batter has dented home plate. After Wednesday's same. By RICHARD GUTWILLIG Staff Sports Writer Bob Corley and Cliff Wog-lom provided the, heroics for the Clarkstown Brewers Wednesday night as the Red Division-leading team scored a 5-0 victory over home-team Pearl River in Senior Babe Ruth action. The Brewers have been get ting fantastic pitching all summer in moving to a 5-0 league mark. Coach Lou Yacopino's staff has yielded but one run in 35 innings and the team has won its last four games by shutouts.

Woglom was the hurler Wednesday night and he set down the Pirates on four harmless singles. The young righthan- Over the wall is out mm der walked one and his teammates played errorless ball behind him and helped out with two fine double plays. Third baseman Gary James started both twin-killings and he was also very instrumental in the Brewer offense. James singled in the first Clarkstown run in the third with two outs scoring Bob Maine. In the fifth, it was an intentional walk to James, loading the bases, that made an Instant hero out of Corley.

With Tom Murphy on the mound for Pearl River, Woglom started the inning with a bunt single. However, a 1-6-3 doubleplay gave the Pirate righty two quick outs. Murphy then walked Maine, Bill Ditt-mer was safe on an error and a passed ball moved the runners to second and third. Woglom said: "It sure was good going a full seven innings. My curve was working real well out there and the Pearl River players kept staying in the back "of the box and that helped." Corley commented that he had never hit a grandslam homer before.

"I don't really know what kind of pitch it was. I just hit the hell out of it. I was madder than you know what'when they walked Gary to get to me. I guess I showed them." The Brewers will put their unbeaten streak on the line Friday against Nyack at the Nyack College field. Don Richards, who one-hit the Nvack club a week ago, will hurl for Clarkstown.

Woglom was in complete control throughout, mixing his curve and sneaky fastball well. He walked just the one man and fanned four in hurling his first complete game since last summer's Babe Ruth League season. Murphy, who played shortstop during the high school season, was making his first start of the summer.

He walked six and fanned two. Other than the four-run shot. Murphy gave up only three hits, but his teammates made five errors to keep in trouble. He did field his position well, handling six chances, starting the Pirate double play and handling three consecutive co-mebackers in the fourth. Woglom's shutout follows two by Jim High (2-0.
