The deal was announced by Overseas Trade Minister Dr. James Cairns who said it involved 173 million bushels.

He said negotiations followed initiatives by the Australian government to establish a friendly diplomatic relationship with China and to maximize the opportunities for trade with China. ABC say it's accurate showed that CBS' "All in the Family" was. for the second straight week, the nation's most popular evening program. Ironically, another CBS show that many critics have cheered "Calucci's Dept." got the same ranking it had the previous week. It came in dead last among all prime-time programs on the air.

President John Adams was the first resident of the White House; he moved in on Nov. 1, 1800. give the huge audience that watches "Sanford and Son" a look at the "totally new direction" the DeLuise comedy -series is taking. That direction, he said, includes a feeling of greater warmth being written into the series for the heretofore sarcastic, wisecracking characters in the "Lotsa Luck" family. He said a secondary reason is that next Monday's "Lotsa Luck" and "Diana" are being pre-empted for an hour-long country music special called "Opryland, U.S.A." He emphasized that the "Lotsa Luck" Friday show is only a one-shot deal and that the program will continue in its Monday time slot hopefully with more viewers the week after next.

It'll be interesting to see if this boosts the show's ratings. It ranked 41st among all nighttime shows aired during Oct. 17, according to an NBC study of Nielsen ratings that week. That study was compiled from national nightly ratings the Nielsen people began providing this season. Previously, the over-night ratings sampled only New York and Los Angeles audiences.

Not one new weekly series has emerged as a hit. And only one of the new once-a-month series CBS "Hawkins" with Jimmy Stewart even has made the list of programs ranked as among the nation's 20 most popular in four weeks of ratings.

The statistical tale thus far indicates that most viewers are passing the new goodies and sticking with the shows they preferred last season and with movie fare. Last season's big winner among the new shows was CBS' "Maude." which still is high in the ratings. But most of the new shows on this go-around are struggling just to keep afloat. But the season still is young. Anything can happen.

In fact. NBC this week is taking an unusual step in hopes of making things happen for "Lotsa Luck," one of its new, low-rated series. The show, starring Dom DeLuise, will appear twice this week in its usual time slot tonight and again Friday night with a new episode right after "Sanford and Son." NBC says the Friday shift will put "The Girl with Something Extra" on a half hour later than usual and "Needles and Pins" will be pre-empted, returning at its regular time Oct. 26. CBS's powerhouse "All in the Family" series was the nation's most widely watched show in the third week of the new TV season, according to ratings, made public Thursday. The A.C.

Nielsen ratings, for the week ending Sept. 30. again ranked none of the season's new series among the nation's 20 most popular shows. The highest rated of the new shows was NBC's "Girl with Something Extra," which tied for 28th with an ABC made-for-TV movie. CBS's "Calucci's widely praised by critics but a cellar-dweller in two weeks of ratings, came in last this time on the Nielsen list.

The show is opposed Friday nights by NBC's popular "San-ford and Son," which this week ranked second in the national ratings, followed by CBS's "The Waltons." According to the ratings, the other programs in the week's 20 most popular are, by order of their ranking: "Hawaii Five-O," "Gun-smoke." "Lucy" and "MASH." all of them CBS programs.
