Page Two Kerrville Mountain Sun July 1, 1989 Meetings Stroke Club Meeting The Kerrville Stroke Club will not meet during the months of June, July and August. The next regular monthly meeting will be on September 18th. Grafters Club The Grafters Club of Kerrville is looking for new members. The club meets the first Monday of each month at Lovingly Made in the River Oaks Shopping Center. Crafters come together for fun, demonstrations and ideas.

July 3 will be the fourth meeting held so far. There are over 20 crafters signed up. No membership fees or dues are required to join. The club will be holding a Craft Show July 16 in the parking lot of the mall. All crafters are invited to set-up a booth.

You need not be a member of the club to participate. Bring a friend and join the fun. If you would like more information, please call Sandra at 367-4518 or Gloria at 257-6514. Masonic Lodge -697 The Kerrville Masonic Lodge No. 697, will have a regular stated meeting Tuesday, July 4, at 7:30 p.m.

All members are urged to attend. All visiting members are also invited. Quilt Guild The Hill Country Quilt Guild will have a show at the Point Theatre in Ingram on July 3-5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Boutique items are also for sale. Bereavement Group The Heart of the Hills Hospice Group will meet Monday night, Jly 3, at 5 p.m. at the Thrift Shop Conference Room. This is an on-going group and anyone who is recently bereaved is welcome to come. For more information call the Hospice office at 896-7770.

Buck and Bull Club The Buck and Bull Club, Inc. will have the monthly Bullseye Shooting Match on Sunday, July 9 at 2 p.m. Registration is at 1 p.m. The shoot will be held at the Club Range on Spur 100 off Hwy. 27.

Members and non-members are invited. R.A.M. -305 The Kerrville Chapter 1305 R.A.M. will have a stated convocation on Monday, July 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the Kerrville Masonic Lodge, 119 Methodist Encampment Road.

All members are urged to attend. Visiting members are welcome. Bee Hive Club Senior adults in our community are invited to join the Bee Hive at First Presbyterian Church in Ingram for an afternoon of fun and Christian fellowship. Meetings are scheduled on the first Tuesday of each month in Fellowship Hall at 1 p.m. for dominos, cards, Rummikub, etc.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, July 11, to accommodate the July 4 holiday. Come join us. Hill Country Democrats The Hill Country Democrats will hold their annual Tamalada (Tamales and Chili) at Louise Hays Park on Sunday, July 16. Speakers and entertainment are planned. Serving time will be from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

at $2.50 per person, children under ten free. For more information contact Streeter King at 257-7355. DAR The Hill Country DAR Council is sponsoring a genealogical workshop to be held July 15 from 9 a.m. to noon, and 1-4 p.m. at the Butt Holdsworth Memorial Library.

The workshop will be led by Mrs. Jack H. Nelson of Kingswood, DAR State Chairman of Lineage Research, Mrs. Nelson has traveled and researched extensively, having researched in various archives, courthouses and libraries, including the DDS (Mormon) Library, Salt Lake City, the National Archives and the NSDAR Library in Washington, D.C., and the Clayton Genealogy Library in Houston. The Hill Country DAR COuncil is composed of the five chapters in this area: Major James Kerr, Kerrville; Handera in Bandera; Ephraim Andrews, Fredericksburg; Sabinal Canyon, Utopia; and Uvalde de los Encinos, Uvalde.

Mrs. John Harrell of Vanderpool is President of the Hill Country DAR Council. She is also vice-president of the Texas Society Daughters of the American Revolution. The two sessions will cover Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Jersey. The workshop will be open to the public at a nominal charge.

Cristi Drane named recipient of Kappa Kappa scholarship Miss Cristi Drane, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen T. Drane of Kerrville, is the recipient of the Kappa Kappa Alumnae Club, a national sorority, scholarship award. Cristi, a 1989 graduate of Tivy High School, plans to enter the University of Texas at Austin this fall and major in business.

Local News Chamber News July Fourth celebration set by Phil Neighbors Celebrate July 4th in Kerrville Many of you have already made plans to celebrate the nation's birthday by being a part of the celebration planned for this Tuesday at Louise Hays Park. Completly planned and uder- written by the Women's Division of the Chamber and Tipton Distributing Company, this event is growing bigger and better each year, and the 1989 celebration will be no exception. Events will begin at 3 p.m. Included will be a kite-flying contest, patriotic baby contest, boom box parade, sky divers, flag raising ceremony, Guadalupe River Jazz Band, Kerr Pops Orchestra, and fireworks along the river. Many food booths will offer a variety of food and drink.

Join the crowds for a fun after- noon and evening beside the Guadalupe River capped off with fireworks. U.S. Flag Service Available Several businesses have called the Chamber to inquire who puts American flags around the community on holidays. The answer is the Heart of the Hills Lions Club. The club contracts out to businesses the service of flying the Stars and Stripes twelve times a year.

The club furnishes the flag, bracket, and labor to put it up and take it down on the holidays. Holiday's include New Year's Day, President's Day, Primary or municipal election day, Armed forces day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veteran's Day, and others. The Club uses funds from this $40 a year service to support various local projects. To par- ticipate in the program, call Clyde Hester at 257-4638. Membership Campaign Planned Wes Boardman and his membership committee are putting together final plans for the annual membership campaign planned for the week of August 7.

During this time, Chamber members will give local businesses the opportunit of knowing more about the Chamber's programs and joining local businesses in support of those programs. Members willing to assist in contacting local businesses may call Wes or the Chamber office. And businesses may join at any time, so call if you would like more information. Leadership Class Applications Names are still being accepted Most UGRA suggestions agreed to Robin Morse, Ingram's attorney in the Texas Water Commission hearing, said Thursday that the city has agreed to most of the Upper Guadalupe River Authority's recommendations tightening controls on the proposed permit for a "zero" discharge wastewater treatment plant. Morse said Ingram has agreed HEARING.

As her first witness she called TWC geologist Robert Morris, who testified that it was his finding that the proposed plant would have no impact on groundwater.

Morris said he only considered as groundwater the Trinity aquifer, which is several hun' dred feet below the surface. He said it was his opinion that any seepage of treated effluent from the irrigation fields would improve the quality of the subsurface waters above the Trinity. Hearing to Continue July 11 TWC Hearings Examiner Leslie Limes said that she would reconvene the hearing July 11 in Austin. If necessary the hearing would continue July 12. Limes told the attorneys in- CPVFD sets dance and barbecue The annual barbecue and dance fund-raiser to benefit the Center Point Volunteer Fire Department has been set for July 8 at the Center Point Fire Station.

The barbecue will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The dance, featuring the Fredericksburg based Southern Image Band, will be from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. the same day.

Gale Molenhauer, vice president, said that this event is the big, one-time-a-year fund raising effort of the Center Point Volunteer Fire Department. "We want to invite everyone out," she said. Please support this event and help us help you." Ingram church offers Mother's Day Out service The First Presbyterian Church of Ingram will offer a summer Mother's Day Out Program on Wednesday's from 9 a.m. to 12 noon during the month of July. The program is open to children from 18 months through those who have just completed second grade.

The cost will be $20 per child for the month. Several witnesses at the hearing were highly critical of the possibility of on-site sludge disposal. Ingram also agrees to monitoring of Johnson Creek at three sites, one upstream of the proposed plant, one downstream, and one at a seep adjacent to the irrigation area.

Also, Ingram has agreed to tighten the treatment level required by the permit. The UGRA recommended a 150-foot buffer zone between the proposed irrigation site and Johnson Creek, rather than the 50-foot zone Ingram has proposed. Lions Camp Dedicates New Building Saturday, July 8, will mark the official ribbon cutting ceremony for the new administration building at the Texas Lions Camp. It also coincides with the 40th Anniversary of the camp.
