Danny Davis and The Nashville Brass will be making a return engagement in Logans- port. Davis, a pop trumpeter, will perform with his brass and string group at 8 p.m. in McHale Auditorium. Tickets are still available for the concert. Davis and his group first performed in Logansport in the early 1970s in the old Berry Bowl.

Fireworks will highlight downtown entertainment on both Friday and Saturday evenings over the festival area. The fireworks are scheduled for 10 p.m. The Twin Rivers Muzzleloaders will have an en- campment at Riverside Park during all three days of the festival. Other festival events include the BMX races Saturday at the Cass County 4-H Fairground and the radio-controlled mode! airplane demonstration on Saturday and Sunday north of Logansport on Ind. 17 at County Road 550N.

Today's Briefing I Quake Explosion Kills 2, Injures 6 DURANGO, Colo. (UPI) Two employees of an auto body shop were killed and six other people were injured in a series of explosions and flash fire apparently triggered by acetylene gas, authorities said Saturday. Sgt. Dan Bender of the La Plata County sheriff office said rescuers were hampered by a series of secondary explosions after the fire initially was reported at Lon's Automotive about 7 p.m. Friday.

"Eyewitnessees stated one employee was working under a car and another employee was filling small gas bottles with oxygen and acetylene gas from larger bottles," Bender said. "One of those bottles exploded but we don't know why." Rock Magazines Removed From Wal-Mart LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (UPI) Nearly three dozen rock 'n' roll magazines, including Rolling Stone, and many comedy and heavy metal records been ordered removed from the racks of hundreds of Wal-Mart stores in 22 states. Among the recording artists banned from Wal-Mart store shelves are comedians Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor, and rock bands AC-DC and Black Sabbath. The magazine order was outlined in a June 13' memorandum to magazine wholesalers that supply the discount store chain based in Bentonville, Ark.

Wal-Mart corporate officials did not return calls by United Press International or the Arkansas Gazette to discuss the action. Earlier this month, a spokeswoman tor the firm said she was unaware of the decision. Waldenbooks Protests Censorship CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (UPI) Waldenbooks stores and around the country have laid out a display of banned or censored books under the title, "Read These Books Before You Can't." The display shows the objectionable books and in some stores they are attached by a ribbon to a map showing the location in the country where they were deemed dangerous. Nancy Waite, a Waldenbooks manager in Cedar Rapids, said the display protests censorship and a recent government pornography crackdown. "The Waldenbooks display is made up of 'classic' books that have been censored or banned in the United States by various groups or Waldenbooks president Harry Hoffman said in a statement to store managers.

Man Arrested In Weapons Smuggling BEIRUT, Lebanon (UPI) Lebanese army troops Saturday arrested a man who attempted to smuggling a car packed with weapons and ammunition into a Palestinian refugee camp in south Beirut, a spokeswoman for the Shiite Amal militia said. She said troops stationed around the Shatila camp stopped a Mercedes and found "different kinds of weapons and ammunition hidden" in the vehicle. The troops arrested the driver and handed him over to the Syrian observers for questioning, she said. Shatila is one of three Palestinian camps severely damaged during a month-long war between Palestinian guerrillas and Shiite Amal fighters that killed 176 people. Rock Guitarist's Condition Improving GREENBRAE, Calif.

(UPI) Jerry Garcia, lead guitarist and founder of the Grateful Dead rock group, was "awake and alert" Saturday in a hospital where he was being treated for diabetes, a nursing supervisor said. Garcia, 43, collapsed at his Marin County home Thursday night and was reportedly in a diabetic coma when he was rushed to Marin General Hospital in Greenbrae, north of San Francisco. Garcia was improving Saturday and his condition has stablized, nursing supervisor Margie Suggs said. Suggs said the musician was still too ill to receive calls or visitors but she described him as "awake and alert." Chemical Fire Burns Out MI AMISBURG, Ohio (UPI) A toxic chemical fire that sent nearly 40,000 people fleeing from their homes finally burned itself out Saturday 90 hours after the worst such rail disaster in U.S. history.

The remaining 300 families displaced from their home since the Tuesday derailment also were given the all-clear signal to return home. About 15 homes in the immediate area of the derailment remained in a restricted zone. William Loftus, the executive director of the Federal Railway Administration, said Saturday it appeared the derailment of a Baltimore Ohio freight was caused by the heat wave that gripped southwest Ohio earlier in the week. A radio station in Richmond said calls poured in about the time the shock was recorded. A Parkersburg, W.Va., disc jockey received a phone call from a woman who said her pet bird "went crazy." "We've had a couple reports oi small power outages and one house that flooded (because of pipe damage)," said dispatcher Rose Meyer of the St. Marys Police Department. "A lot of people had broken dishes that fell out of cupboards, but nothing big at all." Officials at a Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. plant in St.

Marys said a few bricks fell from the top of a chimney. Auglaize County sheriff's deputy Mark Dunnigan said damage seemed to- be limited to St. Marys. "We've had some pictures knocked off walls and some glass broken, but nothing serious has been reported," Dunnigan said. Soon after the 10-second quake occurred, residents of Anna the site of one of the area's worst quakes nearly .50 years ago gathered on the street to discuss the tremor.

"Everybody you talked to thought they had a car run into their house," said Police Chief Tom Bergman. He said there were no reports of damage aside from a bank alarm being set off and pictures being jolted from walls. The National Weather Service in Cleveland received several calls from northeast Ohio residents who wanted to know what happened, and a Columbus police dispatcher "was flooded" with inquiries. A quake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale hit near Cleveland on Jan. 31 and was fett in parts of 12 states and in Ontario, Canada.

Seventeen people were treated for minor injuries, and some damage occurred in the Painesville-Mentor, Ohio, area. William Ott, director of the seismological observatory at John Carroll University in Cleveland, said the January earthquake was much stronger. John H. Beck man John H. Beckman, 65, 1309 Erie died at 6:40 p.m.

Friday in Memorial Hospital. He was born Jan. 1, 1921, in Chili, to Fred and Goldie Stubelfield Beckman. On Jan. 8, 1944, he was married at Paoli to Onie Hortort.

She survives. He retired in January as a mechanic at Grant Implement Co. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 323, Fraternal Order of Police and the Bethel Temple Church. Also surviving are two sons, Rob, Rt. 1, Rochester, and John, Kokomo; a daughter, Pam Hoover, 1309 Erie a Donald, 914 Garfield; a sister, Mary Leahy, Marion, and two grandchildren.

Five brothers and one sister preceded in death. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in McCloskey-Hamilton- Gundrum Funeral Home, the Rev. James R. Holt officiating.

Burial will be in Ever-Rest Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Billy Dean Werner ROCHESTER Billy Dean Werner, 61, Rt. 2, Rochester, died at 5:48 a.m.

Saturday in Woodlawn Hospital. He had been in failing health for three years. He was born June 15, 1925, in Monterey, to George and Bessie Wilson Werner. He was married May 16, 1948, in Knox, to Delores Miller who survives. He was a retired employee of the Torin Corporation where he was maintenance foreman for 19years.

He was a World War U.S. Navy veteran and was a member of the Rochester American Legion Post. He also was a member of the. Rochester Masonic Lodge. Surviving are one daughter, Georgians Braman, Eldora, Iowa- two sons, Scott, at home, and Mark, Sarasota, and three grandchildren.

One brother and one nephew preceded him in death. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Foster Good Funeral Home with the Rev. Teal Younce officiating. Burial with militarv graveside rites will be in Rochester IOOF Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until the service in the funeral home. Fred W. Meeker, Jr.

Kewanna Driver Stable After Two-Car Crash ROCHESTER A Kewanna woman was listed in stable condition in Woodlawn Hospital Friday night after a two-car accident at the intersection of Ind. 14 and U.S. 31 which destroyed both vehicles. State Police said Patricia Walter, 31, suffered lacerations to her head, face, neck and arms when she apparently failed to yield at the intersection. Police said Walter was headed westbound on Ind.

14 when she pulled into the path of a car driven by Mark Richard, 21, South Bend. Richard's car struck the Walter car broadside. Richard was unhurt. The accident west of Rochester occurred at 6 p.m. State trooper Jerry Jolly investigated the incident.

MONTICELLO Fred W. Meeker, 64, 433 N. Illinois died at 2:50 a.m. Saturday in his residence. He was born July 22, 1921, in Monticello, to Fred and Lura Cline W.

Meeker Sr. He was married Dec. 15, 1951, in Monticello, to Joan C. Arbuckle who survives. Meeker was a retired RCA inspector and was employed with the Monticello plant for 30 years.

He was a member of the Assembly of God. Meeker was a member of National Guard Reserves and was a National Guard instructor. He was a World War II U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He was a life member of the Monticello VFW Lodge.

Suriviving with his wife are his mother, Monticello. Burial with military graveside rites will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Riverview Cemetery. No visistation hours will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to the Assembly of God.
