The competition is being sponsored by the National Five Arts Award, inc., a non-profit organization, to stimulate creative writing. Prizes totaling $100.000 In rash and fellowships arc lo be awarded (or the best novel, play ' short story, movie synopsis, popular SOUK, radio script and short shorl story. Officials are somewhat puzzled about certain aspects ot the sudden increase hi composition. Fot one thing, there have been vcr> few .SOURS written by women, yet the two sexes arc running neck and neck in this division. Movie writing has also been considered largely a male (ield. but the lUrls have submitted the bulk of scenarios. Men arc in the lead only in the full length play and ir radio scripts. An analysis of entries also shows that the South and Midwest lead the country in popular song entries ¥ ' lie New York and New England tops in plays and radio scripts other leading sources of entries I besides Toledo and Los Angeles are in order Miami, Newport News.
