COASTAL WEATHER Point Conception to Mexican Border: Southerly winds 5 to 10 knots this morning becoming westerly 10 to 22 knots this afternoon and continuing Saturday. Rain today, Scattered showers tonight. ClearIng Saturday. Continued cool. WESTERN WEATHER SUMMARY large low pressure, covered most of the eastern Pacific with the center of lowest pressure located along Vancouver Island.

A weak high pressure center was 350 miles southwest of San Diego while slightly, stronger high pressure was northeast of Hawall. Rain occurred from Washington to the northern limits of Southern California and will spread over that area today. NATIONAL WEATHER SUMMARY High pressure dominated the weather ever most sections of the nation. A large high pressure area centered in Tennessee covered the eastern half of the country with cool and generally dry weather. Precipitation in the form of showers and snow flurries were confined to the Lower Great Lakes region over the Appalachians.

Most stations in these areas reported only traces of precipitation. Temperatures over the area were mostly in the chilly 30s and 40s except for the 50s right near the Gulf. Today, frost and or freezing temperatures occurred from the 'Lower Mississippi Valley eastward through the Gulf and Southern Atlantic states and through Florida as far south as the Everglades. Occasional rain fell from Cenral California northward through the Pacific Northwest. Elsewhere over the area, the weather was generally dry under partly cloudy skies.

Rainfalls were rather generous through the Upper Pacific Coastal regions with frequent totals averaging one to one of an inch. Temperatures over the area were generally quite mild. Readings in the 40s were confined to the far northwestern and northern areas while the 505 and 60s were common elsewhere.
