PAGE fftfj DAILY REPORTER, DOVER, OHIO, FRIDAY, JULY 29, READ REPORTER CLASSIFIED ADS Power Plant Hit By Blaze eJALUPOLlS, Ohio Ot Kyger electric plant was undergoing repairs today after fire coal conveyor belt and fofctfd cutting of power output from 480,000 to 100,000 kilowatts. The plant, 10 miles north of here, supplies power for the Atomic Energy Commission plant at Piketon. Jim Herrold, assistant manager at Kyger Creek, said the plant was getting additional power from Its interconnecting system with 15 electric companies. The fire broke out last night on two 1,700 foot rubber conveyor belts. No one was injured.

The conveyor carries coal from underground storage pits to the top of plant bunkers. The fire, fanned by coal dust, snapped the conveyor like a rubber band. The conveyor had been shut down 15 minutes earlier during a supper period. HeVrold said an overheated bearing in a belt roller may have caused the blaze. Damage was not estimated- Behind The Scenes Repairs may be completed later today, Herrold said.

The plant would have to shut down if repairs take longer, since only a 24-hour supply of coal was in the. bunkers when the fire started.
