Aztecs Cal Lutheran Beat Utah State, 19-10 Tops 4 A Johnston Gains 382 Yards in 28-6 Win Whittier Christian's Craig Johnston rushed for 382 yards on 48 carries Saturday night in the Heralds' 28-6 win over San Diego Christian. Johnston's yardage places him in a tie with Rio Mesa's Steve Dixon for third place on the CIPs one-game rushing list. He trails only Cantwell's Dave Johnson (401) and Harvard's Kirby Andrews (385). Johnston, who gained 305 yards last week, scored all of Whittier Christian's points. Loyola, the Times, No.

1-ranked team, recorded its second lop-sided win of the season, 42-10, over California. The Lions, 42-14 winners over Banning in their opener last week, were led by quarterback Kevin Nuno who scored three touchdowns and passed for another, rushed for 68 yards on 14 carries and completed 11 of 16 passes for 128 yards. Buck Price, to win the $34,000 Pomona Handicap for the second straight year before smogbound spectators. Frankel won the championship-deciding Pomona Handicap with a $40,000 bargain, High Protein, last year, but Buck Price completely overshadowed the performance of last season's champion. Buck Price, who was claimed for $25,000 last July at Hollywood Park, shattered the Pomona track record for 1V6 miles by more than a second as jockey Francisco Mena hustled him home in 1:48 45 to beat his nearest challenger, Lainero, by 10 lengths. The former track and stakes record of 1:50 flat had belonged to Twentyone Guns since 1960, the oldest of Pomona marks for a regularly-run distance. Mena, who must start serving a 10-day suspension Monday for careless riding, gave Buck Price a perfect trip.

He placed the even-money favorite just behind a pacesetting duel between Foolish Edition and King Charley until they turned into the backstretch for the second time. Buck Price easily took command on the backstretch and widened his lead with every succeeding stride. This was the fourth win in six races, two of them in stakes, for the 4-year-old son of Prince Khaled since Frankel claimed him for his new owner, Martin Ritt. Ritt became the season's top money-winner with the $20,900 that Buck Price earned Saturday. He paid $4 for the win.

Far behind Buck Price, Lainero overtook King Charley for second by a half-length. Attendance showed a 5.6 gain over a year ago, and handle increased 8 to an all-time Pomona high. San Diego State won its fourth straight. TTi 1 1 Louie uiammona 01 uian i g- i JmS Jf. -zy r- A Z'tl "iXZt 4' fi ZZr.
