School Treasurer's Bondo, Notices ot Annual School Meetings and School Registers will now be furnished to District lerks who apply to the County Superintendent For the Grange Advanhcc. PINE ISLAND, July 28th, 1875. PROI HANCOCK Sir: at the 7Vaining School held at Cannon Falls, last September, one of the exercises recommended as suitable for teaching composition was changing poetry to prose. Most of the teachers considered it too difficult for any other than advanced schools. I determined to give it a trial in my Summer school, with what saccess you can judge.

I do not claim their work to be above criticism, but send you a brief sample of what they have been doing, for the encouragement of the class, and that teachers may seepropriated what can be done by novices in the art of composition writing: 'Mid pleasures and palaces though we may roam, Still, be it ever so humble, there's no place like home A charm from the skies seems to hallow it there, Which go through the world, you'll not meet with, elsewhere. Home, home, sweet sweet home! There's no place like homel We may wander through the world, through pleasant countr es and green fields, or cross the deep ocean, but we will never meet with so happy a place as the home of our childhood. It matters not how lowly the cottage, there seems to be a charm from above that makes it pleasant and agreeable. It is home, and there is no place like it. MARY DENTON.

"An exile from home, pleasure dazzles in vain, Ah! give me my lowly, thatched cottage again The birds singing sweetly, that come at my callGive me them with that peace of mind dearer than all. Home, sweet, sweet homeJ There's no place like horqe! The gay allurements of fashionable life have no charm for the wanderer. I sigh for the low roofed cottage, and the birds that warbled in the old elm that o'ershadowed my dwelling. My thoughts wander back to those happy days of yore, when my mind was peaceful. Ah! there is no place so sweet and enchanting as home! LYDIA DENTON.

We were youths together, And castles built in air Your heart was like a feather, And mine weighed down with care. To you came wealth with manhood's prime, To me it brought alloys Foreshadowed in the primrose time, When you and I were boys. In childhood we roamed about together with light and buoyant steps, building up hopes and fancies with cheerful, happy hearts. But to me came care and trouble which crushed my happy heart and laid low my cherished hopes and as you advanced to manhood wealth and hoped for treasure came. Long years had elapsed since I gazed on the 6cene, Which my fancy still robed in its freshness of green.

The spot, where a school-boy, all thoughtless, I strayed, By the side of the stream, in the gloom of the shade. A long period of time had slipped Dy since I looked upon the place which in my memory was still clothed in freshness and verdure. Where I roamed a thoughtless school boy when the shadows were deepening. WILLIE DENTON. MRS.
