THE JOURNAL-NEWS, FRIDAY, JULY 13, 1973 3D Two Rockland Senior BR all-star teams in tourney garas to select the AU Star squads. On the Rockland Red team are players from the Clarkstown Brewers, Nyack Recs, Spring Valley Recs, Blauvelt Rotary and Nanuet County Patrolmen squads. Rockland Blue players were chosen from the Clarkstown Recs, Albertus Magnus, Pearl River and Suf fern. The Red Division AU Stars are being coached by Dick Gutwillig and Lou Yacopino, while the Blue squad will be handled by Joe Gangone and Frank Pisano, Selected as pitchers for the Rockland Red team were Jim High and Don Richards of the Brewers, Jody Minutella and Joe Viotto of Spring Valley and Richie Gass of Nanuet. All five are righthanders and also pitched full seasons this spring in PSAL ball High and Viotto have been very succussful this summer.

High has three shutouts to his credit, while Viotto has a no-hitter among his four victories. The catching duties will be handled by Jeff Morgan of Nyack and Stu Horvitz of Spring Valley. Both of these players can also double in the infield as well. Ken Eagle of Spring Valley and Paul ana-maker of Nyack will handle first and Scott Harris of Blauvelt can work there as well as at second or in the outfield. Kevin Rich of Blauvelt and Bob Corley of the Brewers are expected to handle the bulk of the duties at second and short, while Barry Shelofsky of Blauvelt and Gary James of the of the Clarkstown Recs, his teammate Fred Schindelar.

Fred Furman of Suffern and Neil O'Reilly of Albertus. Pisano. Furman and O'Reilly are lefthanders. Pisano and Furman were the first team All Rockland selections at pitcher this spring. Catching this quintet will be Dan Karkos (Suffern).

Vito Arno (Pearl River) and Art Chianese (Clarkstown Recs). In the infield, coaches Gangone and Pisano will select rom Mike Hagon (Suffern). ndy Deacon (Suffern). Tom Eschen (Suffern). Steve Scher-er (Clarkstown).

Tom Murphy (Pearl River) and George Desmarais (Pearl River). Hagon. Deacon and Eschen played first, second and short respectively for Suffern during ro New York title with a 6-1 mark. The victory earned the team a trip to Hornell for the regionals, but the team dropped two tough 2-1 decisions and was eliminated. If either or both Rockland teams can win their crucial first games Saturday and Sunday and advance into double-elimination play, then the four coaches agree that the players have a fine shot at making it all the way.

Under the tourney draw, if both Rockland clubs keep win-ning, they would face each other in a semi-final game on Thursday. Last year, it was the Blue team that eliminated the Red squad from the Metro tourney held in Copaigue, By RICHARD GUTWILLIG Staff Sports Writer Rockland County's two Senior Babe Ruth All Star teams will commence action this weekend in the Metro New York Tournament at Burns Recreation Park in Massape-qua. L.I. The Rockland Red team will start off the tourney action at 12:30 p.m. Saturday against All County representing Nassau County.

On Sunday night at 8 p.m., Rockland Blue will tangle with the Gil Hodges League team from Brooklyn. The tourney has attracted 11 All Star teams from the New York area and only Rye has received a first-round bye. The five first round games are single elimination games. After the high school season. Murphy has also been pitching for Pearl River this summer and can be used as a relief hurler.

The outfielders selected in-elude Paul Hlavaty (Clarkstown). Tom Hahn Albertus). Jeff Monaco Pearl River) and Joe McCabe (Albertus). In the last two years, the Rockland teams have enjoyed a fair amount of success in Metro New York tournament play. In 1972, the Rockland Blue team played four games, winning two before being eliminated.

Rockland Red a year ago won its first game before dropping the next two. The 1971 Rockland Red team, which included Steve Wanamaker, Barry Shelofsky and Garv James, won the Met er on a single by Joe Rigoli. The Brewers tied it in the third, 2-2. Mickey Bruton got on via an error, stole second, moved to third after Bob Con-tonto walked and the two pulled off a double steal and scored on an error. Kevin Landau then delivered the tying run with a single.

The tie lasted only briefly, as Eschen walk, Rigoli's single and Pete Pardossi's squeeze bunt brought home a run. The Mounties added three in the fifth off Eschen long RBI triple. Karkos' RBI single Brewers will hold down third base. In the outfield are Steve Wa-namaker of Nyack, Mike Bru-ton of the Brewers and Ron Wilson of Spring Valley. All three hit over .300 this spring.

Wanamaker hit .314 in PSAL play and in 1972 led the league with a .456 average. This summer he is hitting .423. Bruton made All-Conference at Rockland Community College this spring, while Wilson led the 1973 PSAL batters with a .429 mark. Rounding out the Red squad is Nyack's Harold Siegriest. who will be utilized in the infield and as a spot relief hur-ler.

Selected as pitchers for Rockland Blue are Joe Gangone of Suf fern, Mike Pisano RBI-singles to lead the charge. But, in the top of the seventh, Scherer singled, moved to third on an error and scored on Terry Conklin's squeeze bunt. Mike Pisano hurled the first five innings for the Recs, while Fred Schindelar came in for the last two frames and fanned four. Maine and Canada.

The site of the regionals hasn't been announced yet. At the end of the rainbow is a trip in mid-August to the Senior Babe Ruth World Series which will be held for the second straight year in Monroe, N.C. At two meetings last week, managers of Rockland's nine Senior Babe Ruth teams met with league president Ted Ta- ning runs in the seventh to give the Ivymen a 10-8 win. Frank Lutz had a homer and three-RBIs, while Art Connolly drove in three runs with a pair hits. Jim Gilmartin picked up the win in relief.

Jim No-vick socked a triple and a single for the losers. The double winners had less resistance from Scotty's Topless and took a 13-3 victory. John Jameson, who earlier had fired a three-hitter in West Nyack, came back two hours later with a five-hitter to key the win. Lutz again impressed with a triple, double and single, while Tom Dickson numbered two doubles among his three hits. Joe Brady pitched in with a pair of safeties for Villa.

RC Industrial New York Telephone downed Schwarz-Mann, 13-5, in the Rockland County Industrial Softball League Thursday. Winning pitcher Steve Lester went two-for-three and received ample support from homers by Frank Lippi and Leo Marino and three and two hits from John Sweeney and Al Tedesco respectively.
