16 Part III-Sun Nov. 20, 1977 ILos SligrltB Eilllca 2 Titans' Last Is Their Worst, 49-7 quarterback Parker and another of 15 from tailback Gibson. Conron's three touchdown receptions established a Pacific record. That play came on a second-and-12 situation midway through the first period.

The Titans had come out at the start of the game with six precalled plays, running them without a huddle. The ploy was successful through the first four plays, which gained 41 yards. Artis Dixon fumbled on the fifth play and Pacific recovered. Leading 7-0 after the first period, Pacific preyed upon the Fullerton defensive backfield to score on its first possession of the second period. Milton Carter was called for a 36-yard pass interference penalty, giving Pacific the ball on the Fullerton 1.

Bruce Gibson scored from there on the next scored its third touchdown the hard way. It had a 55-yard punt return by Joe Conron nullified by a clip, so it simply drove 95 yards in eight plays to make it 21-0. Conron, appropriately, scored the touchdown on a 30-yard pass from Bruce Parker. The big gainers leading to the scoring play were a 21-yard Parker-to-Conron pass and a 21-yard run by Gibson. Fullerton's touchdown came on its last possession of the half, a 71-yard drive taking 10 plays.

From the Pacific 45, the Titans got 20 on a Dale Bunn to Rick Ellis pass, 17 on a quick opener with Obie Graves carrying and the final 8 on a Bunn to Bruce Abraham pass. Fullerton's chances of getting back into the game were blown away in the third period. Conron caught two more touchdown passes, one of 9 yards from BY DAVE DISTEL Tlmss Staff Writer STOCKTON Cal State Pullerton saved its worst for last and absorbed a 49-7 loss to Pacific before a shivering crowd of 6,952 in a refrigerator which doubled as a football stadium Saturday night The temperature was in the 30s, but Fullerton was not that warm. The offense never got untracked and the defense continued to be burned by big plays. Of course, Pacific was plenty warm.

The victory gave it a Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. record of 3-1, good for second place behind Fresno State. It finished 6-5. Fullerton finished the season at 4-7, slipping back into the PCAA cellar at 0-4. It had finished ahead of Pacific last year.

Pacific got three touchdown receptions from Joe Conron and two touchdowns and a touchdown pass from Bruce Gibson, who closed his career breaking one of Dick Bass's records and equaling another. He rushed for 119 yards in 26 carries, playing only three periods. Pacific finished with a total offense of 443 yards to Fullerton's 241, First downs were even at 16, long gainers again making the difference. A common malady plagued Fuller-ton as it fell behind at the half, 21-7. It had an advantage in first downs, which it seems to always have, but found itself down because of the defense's proclivity for giving up big plays.

Indeed, Pacific's first touchdown came on a 78-yard pass play, Steve Harden to Bill Rochford. Catching the ball just past the 50, Rochford got around defensive back Bobby McLean and sprinted down the left sideline. It was the fifth scoring play longer than Bruins to Face Cal UCLA will be the site of an NCAA West Regional soccer playoff game this afternoon when the Bruins play host to California on the North Athletic Field on the Westwood campus. Game time is 1 p.m. 111.2.
