I I I i THE NEWS JOURNAL MONDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 2004 OBITUARIES Kelso Alsop Everett Mrs. Kelso Alsop Everett, age 85, of Wilmington, DE, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on November 12, 2004. Mrs. Everett, the daughter of the late Robert Kelso Alsop and Eleanor Montgomery Alsop, was born in Richmond, VA on July 7, 1919, where she grew up and attended St. Catherine's School from which she graduated in 1938.

She maintained lifelong ties with many friends and family members of all ages in Richmond. Mrs. Everett moved to Wilmington in 1955 where she became a partner with Mary Hynson and Katherine Buchan at Secretariat Limited, an event planning business which managed weddings, debutante parties, and other social affairs that typified Wilmington of an earlier era. This, along with Mrs. Everett's naturally warm, straightforward personality, enabled her develop a wide friendship throughout the community.

Mrs. Everett retired in 1971 to travel and enjoy life with her husband and family. In 1957, Mrs. Richard C. duPont, the owner of Bohemia Stables and a good friend of Mrs.

Everett, named a newborn colt "Kelso" in her friend's honor. "Kelso" went on to become an incomparable legend in the horse racing world and was named "Horse of the Year" for five consecutive years, a feat that has never been duplicated. Mrs. Everett often went "to the track" to watch her namesake compete in major stakes races and often win with his dramatic style. Mrs.

Everett was a member of the Delaware Chapter of the National Society of Colonial Dames where she was Chair of the Museum House Committee and led the restoration of the interior of the First Presbyterian Church, the so-called "Little Church" now on Park Drive in Wilmington, to resemble the colonial interior of the 1740 structure that had been moved from its original site on Market Street under threat of demolition. Because of her success, sincere interest and commitment, Mrs. Everett was elected to the National Roll of Honor of the Colonial Dames in 1979. Among other organizations she was also a member of the Vicmead Hunt Club which had been co-founded by her sisterin-law, Mrs. Victor (Betty) duPont, and she was instrumental Point organizing the Winterthur in its founding years.
