Lower Lake was predicted to win the tournament; Dunsmuir did. Portola laid all predictions to waste by taking third place with a 45-43 win over Lower Lake. Lower Lake could do no wrong in the opener with Quincy. The Truckee cashed in big on Friday when they dropped Lower Lake 50-48.

Portola was the only local team to win an opener. They handled Big Valley easily, 55-37. Westwood controled most of their opener with Dunsmuir, but let down late in the game; losing 68-60. Dunsmuir's inside game worked against Portola on Friday. They won it 68-55.

They were a good match-up for the similar Tahoe Truckee team. The Dunsmuir team recently wet their championship. Loyalton beat both Quincy and Westwood teams by 10 each to claim the consolation title. The junior varsity championships came down to a contest between Quincy and Portola. Portola had to work a little harder getting to the title match.

They had a fairly close game with Truckee, 32-26, before the finale. The Mini-Trojans coasted with easy wins. The Mini-Tigers took Quincy to the hoop, 42-40, for the title. Lower Lake won the consolation game with Dunsmuir 32-29. Coach's 71 Personal Gary Kloppenburg is 32 years old, married, and has one daughter. His wife's name is Academic Kloppenburg is a 1971 graduate from La Jolla High School in San Diego. He attended Feather River College 1973-'74.

He received a B.A. in Spanish from the University of Experience Kloppenburg has been around basketball all his life. His father is a basketball coach. He played guard for his high school basketball team. He had heard of Coach Jim Young and remembered seeing one of Young's teams play while he was in high school.

He wanted to get out of southern California and was interested in playing college basketball so he enrolled at Feather River College. He played for Jim Young's FRC Golden Eagles for two seasons. He moved to England and played basketball in the English National League in 1975-'76. Kloppenburg moved to chops with a football championship. The Feather River College (FRC) Golden Eagles topped their own Silvertip Classic with a 74-69 win over Cabrillo College in Quincy last Saturday. "This is a milestone," said FRC Coach Gary Kloppenburg. "We played real good defense. the turnovers." FRC's tournament win was its first in six years, according to Kloppenburg.
