"We work extremely hard at Florida State to do the things that are proper and right," athletic director Hootie Ingrain said. "We certainly appreciate the effort by somebody to come in and find out if we were doing something wrong. In a letter to university president Bernie Sliger, NCAA assistant executive director David Berst said there was insufficient information available to expect its committee of infractions to find any violations in the Seminoles' program. The man who allegedly attacked Kansas State University President Jon YVefald in his office Monday is a former football player at the school and the same man who crashed a car into the White House gates in 1981, authorities said. Marian E. Ray, 47, of Clay Center, reportedly went into Wefald's office late Monday afternoon, yelled about the reported selection of Iowa offensive coordinator Bill Snyder as Kansas State's new head football coach and, according to campus police, "grabbed (Wefald) in a bear-hug type fashion and threw him to the floor." No charges have been filed against Ray, who was taken to Memorial Hospital for observation after the incident and later transferred to Topeka State Hospital. Snyder was expected to be introduced as the football coach at a news conference today.
