He served in the US Air Force from August 12, 1952 to August 11, 1956. Mr. Dean was a member of the National Hot Rod Association. He was a professional driver in Pro Stock Drag Racing with a team called "Sky High He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Norma L. Dean of North East, MD; children, Terri G.

Harriet was born in Roaring Springs, PA and attended Pennsylvania State University in State College, PA before moving, to Wilmington in her early 20's.

Her first job was as bookkeeper for Irving R. Fisher, owner of Fisher's clothing stores. She married her boss, Irving, and continued to work in the store, both as a salesperson and as buyer for the She volunteered for a variety of community organizations including the Flower Market, the Delaware Symphony and the Junior Board of the Memorial Hospital. She was a lively and attractive woman with a sharp wit who always was stylishly dressed in the latest fashions from Fisher's. But more importantly, she was a loving wife to Irving who died in 1981, and she passionately loved her only daughter, Sally McBride and her 3 grandsons, Sean, Daniel and Timothy.

Despite the typical complications of age, she lived independently at Coffee condominiums until final hospitalization, and with her Pennsylvania Dutch determination, she remained positive and retained her love of life until her final rest. Friends and relatives are invited to attend the memorial service at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Pennsylvania Ave. at Rodney Wilmington at 11 am on Saturday, September 23, 2000. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the charity of your choice.

"Peg" Gentile Age 75, of Kennedyville, MD, and formerly of Middletown, DE, passed away on Monday, September 18, 2000 at Sacred Heart Manor in Philadelphia. Born in Philadelphia, Mrs. Gentile graduated from the University of Delaware with a degree in Psychology. She taught 4th grade at St.

Pauls in Delaware City and at Holy Cross in Dover. She also had substituted in the Appoquinimink School District until her retirement she taught piano her retirement in 1967. Following lessons in the MiddletownOdessa-Townsend Area and also in Kent MD. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Middletown where she played the organ and was involved with many church functions.

In addition to playing the piano she also enjoyed working in her garden. Her husband Dominick P. Gentile died in 1991. She is survived by 1 daughter, Susan Opengart of Philadelphia, and 1 son Thomas Gentile of Earleville, MD; 1 brother, Joseph Schmidt of Annapolis, MD; and several nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, September 22 at 10 am in Old Bohemia Catholic Church, Warwick, MD, with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Hatch Age 82, died peacefully on Tuesday, September 19, 2000 at Foulk Manor North where she had lived with her loving husband of nearly 57 years since suffering a debilitating stroke in June. Louise was born June 1, 1918 in Newport News, VA to David Stuart and Octavia Gilmour Bingham. Louise grew up in East Orange, NJ and graduated from Wells College in1938.

She married Denison H. Hatch on October 13, 1943. They settled in his family home at Riverside, CT after World War II. She devoted her life to raising their 5 children there with him. In September, 1997, they moved to Wilmington, DE.

In addition to her husband, Louise is survived by her children, Marlene Hatch Barnett (and husband Fred) of Tuscaloosa, AL, Louise Hatch Harrison (and husband John) of Hingham, MA, Denison H. Hatch, Jr. (and wife Wendy) of Wilmington, Edward W. Hatch (and wife Jean Brummer) of Granite Bay, CA, her grandchildren Kevin Denison McKenzie, Andrew William McKenzie, Geoffrey Stuart Harrison, James Stuart Harrison, Denison H. Hatch, III, and Erica S.

Hatch; and her brother, William R. Bingham (and wife Louise) of Wayne, NJ. She was preceded in death by her youngest daughter, Elizabeth Denison Hatch. A private service for family members will be held this weekend in Wilmington; her remains will be interred at First Congregational Church, Old Greenwich, CT. Malin Age 61, of Kennett Square, PA, died Tuesday, September 19, 2000 at the Pembrooke Health Rehabilitation Residence, West Chester, PA. Born in Chester County, PA, she was a daughter of the late Hazel E. Pugh, who died in 1996. She enjoyed driving her car, watching TV, and bowling.

An avid baseball fan, Miss Malin was especially fond of the Phillies and the Atlanta Braves. He had been attending the Colorado Center for the Blind since June of this year. Todd was a 1989 graduate of the Tatnall School. He is survived by his immediate family consisting of his sister, Laurie Powell of San Diego, his brother, Andy Powell, Andy's wife Vickie of New Orleans, his parents, Dr. and Mrs. R.

Arrangements by CHANDLER FUNERAL HOMES AND CREMATORY. Charles I. Schwendeman Age 80 of Kennett Square, PA, died on Tuesday, September 19, 2000 at the Chester County Hospital, West Chester, PA. He was the husband of Gloria Gatti Schwendeman with whom he shared 50 years of marriage.

Born in West Chester, PA, he was a son of the Phoebe Malin Schwendeman. Mr. Schwendeman a 1938 School. graduate of Kennett a Square Bachelor High He received degree from Drexel University, his CPA from Cades, and a Masters degree from Weidner University. A veteran of WWII, Schwendeman the served in the European Theatre.

He retired in 1983 from the DuPont where he worked for over 30 years. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Kennett Institute Square, the American of CPA's, the Pennsylvania Institute of CPA's and the Kennett Fire Co. His interests included golfing, boating on the Elk River in MD, and learning about and working on computers. In addition to his wife, survivors 1 son, Barry Lynn Schwendeman of Newark, DE; 1 brother, Thomas Schwendeman of Kennett Square, PA; and 1 grandson, Darrell Lynn Schwendeman of Bear, DE. Ann Marie Sobocinski Age 53, of Hockessin, died Monday, September 18, 2000 at home with her family. Mrs. Sobocinski, a legal secretary, was born in Wilmington, DE and graduated from John Dickinson High School.

She worked as a homemaker and was a loving wife, mother, daughter, and sister. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. She is survived by her, husband of 34 years, Edward Z. Sobocinski; her father Ezio Antonelli of Stanton; her sons, Christopher E. Sobocinski and his wife S.

Roy Soukup, Jr. Church Organist Choir Director Roy Soukup, of Fairfax, Wilmington, died on Monday, September 18, 2000, at Christiana Hospital, Newark, DE. A noted church organist and choir director for 53 years who studied organ Harrison ated with many churches, Walker, Mr. Soukup, was affiliincluding First United Presbyterian, Grace Methodist, Grace Episcopal, St. Andrew's Episcopal, and most recently, Limestone Presbyterian, all in the Wilmington area.

His musical pursuits also included performing with the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra, the Madrigal Singers, and the Brandywiners Chorale. Mr. Soukup was born in Buffalo, NY, to the late Iva P. (Hamlin) and Roy Soukup, and was a graduate of the University of Delaware, receiving his BS in 1951 and his MBA in 1958. At UD, he was the first pledge to the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.

Following his education, he as a systems analyst for the DuPont Company, the University of Be Delaware, and Rollins, Inc. Since 1992, he was the accountant for St. Michael's School and Nursery in Wilmington. Mr. Soukup enjoyed railroading and photography.

He was a member of The Episcopal Church of Ss. Andrew and Matthew, the American Guild of Organists, and the National Railroad Historical Society. For 20 years, he served as the official recorder for the UD Blue Hens football team. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lucille Dana Angell Soukup; 4 children, Alan Dana Soukup and his wife, Lise Movall of Olney, MD, Nancy Hamlin Soukup of Warwick, RI, Betty SouBlackburn and her husband, Ronald L. of Richmond, VA, and Catherine Soukup Falcone of West Chester, PA; 3 grandchildren, Amy Catherine Soukup, Brian Austin Soukup, and Patrick McLean Blackburn; brother-inlaw, Ralph McLean Angell, Jr.

Arrangements by SPICER-MULLIKIN FUNERAL HOMES Ethel Buchler Tanner Age 84, of Lewes, died peacefully at her home on Thursday, September 14, 2000. She was born in Wilmington on March 24, 1916. Soon after, she moved with her family to Rehoboth Beach where she happily spent her young, years eventually graduating from Rehoboth High School. She left to attend and graduate from the Delaware Hospital School of Nursing, to pursue her chosen profession. She excelled at at nursing doing hospital first.

Due to her love of children, most of her career was spent in school nursing working at Stanton Junior High, Absalom Jones, Lora Little and Linden Hill Elementary Schools. She retired from the latter in 1979. During, that time she helped the Delaware School Nurse Association for which she served as president. Though she had traveled extensively, upon retirement she returned to her favorite locationthe, Rehoboth area, where she remained until the present. Along with her beloved husband of 30 years, Robert Tanner, she was a charter of the Bull Terrier Club of Philadelphia.

(Bob preceded her in death in 1968). Since relocating to Nassau Park (Whispering Pines), she became very active in the Beebe Hospital Auxiliary from which she recently receive a 20 year recognition pin, the Lewes Senior Citizen Center where she spent much time especially with the One Room School House, the Delaware Hospital Alumni Association and Long Neck Methodist Church. She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. She took great pride in the accomplishments of her children and grandchild who all adored her. She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she so lovingly touched.

They include: daughter, Bobbie (Barbara) Messick and husband Ed of Herring Creek, son Jim (Robert, Tanner, wife Donna, and grandson John Tanner of Tampa, FL; br law and sister-in-law Gilbert and Betty Tanner; sister-in-law Barbara Lee Tanner and a multitude of nieces, nephews and friends. of Quarryville, PA, Helen M. Chandlee Age 88, of Wilmington, died Monday, September 18, 2000 in Francis Hospital. Chan as she was referred to by her fellow nurses, graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing in 1931. She was a nurse for 42 years spending most of her career at St.

Francis Hospital. She served in the US Army Nursing Corp during WWII in Europe. She is survived by her sister Gertrude E. Drennen of Easley, SC; her sisters-in-law, Gertrude T. Chandlee of Wilmington, and Ann B.

and Bessie Fernandez Lane. She was a homemaker and a member of the Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in New Castle and attended St. Polycarp's Roman Catholic Church in Smyrna. She was also a member of the Clayton Century Club. She was preceded in death by a great grandson, Jes Shetzler in 1998.

Mr. Thokind mas wasand compassionate person who went to Howard High School, served in the US Navy in World War II, and retired from the Wilmington Sanitation Department after 20 years of distinguished service. He also retired from the Speakman Company after years. His last place of employment was the 1401 Condominiums. Norman was baptized at the New Calvary Baptist Church in 1960 and was ordained a Deacon in 1977.

For many years he was a devoted member of Shiloh Baptist Church, where he served on the male chorus and Board of Deacons. Since 1996, he worshiped at New Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where he served on the Deacon Board. He leaves cherish his memory his wife, Dorothy M. Thomas; his son, Lafayette Jackson; daughter-in-law, Theda Jackson; sisters, Doris T.

Powns, Vera Baker; his, grandchildren, Marc Jackson Lansdale, PA, Traci Jackson of Hyattsville, MD, TiJuana and Walley; and 7 great grandchildren. Norman was predeceased his son, Norman S.
