Charles Edwin Goepel Charles Edwin Goepel, age 78, of Long Neck, DE, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 30, 2004. He was a Senior Engineer for Boeing Vertol in Ridley Park, PA, retiring in 1985 after 32 years of service and Co-Owner of the Creamy Cone in Long Neck. Charles was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Army Air Force. He was a member of the Long, Neck United Methodist Church, Masonic Jefferson Lodge of Lewes, Knights Templar of Chester, PA, Joppa Council of Delaware, the Chester Commandry, FOP Sussex American Legion Post of Oak VFW Post of Quillen's Point in Ocean View, Lower DE Shield Square, Lower DE Computer Club, Lower DE British Car Club, and the Sussex County Stamp Club. He was founder and member of the Long Neck Business Association, was a WBOC Weather Watcher, and was also private pilot and member of the Delaware Pilots Association.

Charles was preceded in death by his son, John R. Goepel. He is survived by his wife, Lois H. Goepel; stepdaughter, Linda Binkley and husband, Dale; 9 grandchildren, John R. Goepel, James Edwin Goepel and wife, Sherri, Anthony Goepel, Diana Sue Dietz and partner, Judith Lamplugh, James Dietz USMC.

Sandy Dietz, Binkley and wife, Kimberly, Carolyn Binkley, Megan Anderson and husband, Eric; 3 great grandchildren, Justin, Cassidy, Shelby; 1 sister, Beatrice Muth and husband, James; adopted sister, Carol Loy and husband, Walter; and 2 nephews. WATSON Arrangements by HOME Greg D. Hackstie Age 33 of Wilmington, DE died suddenly on Thursday, November 4, 2004 at home. Born in Chester, PA, September 15, 1971, Greg attended St. Elizabeth's High School. Greg was a talented luthier, musician, woodworker and artist.

He was the sole proprietor of the Brandywine Guitar Shop in Wilmington, where for 8 years he custom built archtop and semi hollow guitars, and repaired guitars and other musical instruments. Music was Greg's life-long passion. For more than a decade, Greg was a member of a few local bands, including Broken English and Panel. He enjoyed playing the guitar, piano, and drums and writing music. Greg's many other interests included reading a wide variety of topics, classic cars, photography and bike riding.

He touched so many with his brilliant talent, bright mind, sense of humor and infectious laughter. His warm smile will be in our hearts forever. Greg inspired us all with his strong will, courage determination during his recovery following a serious automobile accident in Austin, TX last December. His remarkable progress was fueled by his inner strength and hopeful outlook. Greg is survived by his mother, Marie R.

Hackstie, with whom he lived; his sister, Julia Clare Hackstie, of Claymont; many loving aunts, uncles, and 23 first cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Henry J. Hackstie. Josie was born in Wilmington to the late Madison, and Annie 1976 from the Electric Hose (Richzman) retired in Rubber Co. after 41 years of service. Josie is survived by her nephew who cared for her, Richard Woerner of Bear; and several nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, 7 siblings preceded her in death, Madaline Heck, Herman Heck, Sarah Woerner, Anne Price, Olive Woerner, Margaret Bader and Leon Heck. Harry L. Hoch, age 81, of Milton, DE, passed away on Monday, November 8, 2004. ch was an Army Veteran of WWII. He attended the University of Delaware, Montana State College, University of Idaho, University of Kansas, and then the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1949. Dr.

Hoch interned at the Delaware Hospital of Wilmington, followed by 25 years of Family Practice in Middletown. Afterwards he became director of the Emergency Department at the Beebe Medical Center in Lewes. He was a lifelong outdoorsman with a renown passion for Quail hunting. He walked across most of the rural parts of the Eastern Shore in the quest of covey rises behind his faithful dogs. Dr.

Hoch's battle with Parkinson's Disease was significant in his final years. He was the eldest son of Harry Keller Hoch a and Arrelee Lattomus Hoch, of Middletown. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jenny Louise Lockwood Hoch; brother, John W. Hoch and his wife, Gwendolyn; his daughter, Anne Hoch, Shahrabani; son, Harry L. and 2 grandsons, Christopher and Patrick Shahrabani.

There will be a private family service at Old St. Anne's Church in Middletown. Howard Janie Sheridan Howard of McDaniel, MD died Friday, November 5, 2004.

She was 71. Born in Wilmington, DE February 11, 1933, she was the daughter of Betty Records Sheridan and Victor Sheridan. She was a graduate of Wilmington High School and attended Goldey Beacom Business College, several years of evening classes and International Correspondence School. She also attended the Barbizon School of Modeling and took art lessons. She began working with the Dupont Company in 1950, where she worked as a delivery person.

She was promoted and became a procedures and methods supervisor, retiring in 1985. When the Howard's moved from Mendenhall, PA to the Eastern Shore of MD in 1985, Janie was able to enjoy her hobbies which included the care and love of her pets, cooking, reading, traveling, e-mail corresponding and sharing her humor with friends. Janie is survived by her husband and best friend, Walter Sammons Howard, whom she married September 21, 1967; 2 brothers, William Sheridan of Stanton, DE and Robert Sheridan of FL; 2 stepchildren, Sam and his wife, Melissa, of Chesapeake, VA and Sandra of Mineral, VA; 5 stepgrandchildren; a niece, Lisa Burleigh and her husband, David, of Wilmington, DE; a nephew, Mark Sheridan of FL; and cousins, Eleanor Henry and her family of Claremont, CA, Stanley Records and his wife, Janice, of Laurel, DE, Jack DeDonalo and Phyllis DeDonalo Henry, both of in Philadelphia, Barbados, PA; and many friends CN and the U.S. The family would like to extend its deepest gratitude to friends and neighbors for their love and support. Viewing pm only. Interment in Gracelawn Memorial Park. Arr. by CONGO FUNERAL HOME Chester V. Lukens Age 88 of New Castle, DE, formerly of Ridley Park, PA, died peacefully at home November 6, 2004.

Mr. Lukens proudly served our country in the United States Army during World War II. After his discharge from the service, he worked for many years for Ford Motor and retired as a foreman in 1980. His first wife died in 1996. He was also preceded in death by his children, Thomas, Mary Ann Cacciatore and Donald.

He is survived by his wife, Sara; his children, Robert, Barbara and Kathleen Lukens; his stepchildren, Helen Lang, Walter (Robyn) and David Bower (Lynne). Other survivors include his sister, Helen Kenney; 17 grandchildren; 6 stepgrandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 4 step great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild. The funeral service will be at 11 am on Thursday, November 11, at the MCCRERY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 3924 Concord Pk, Talleyville (Rt.202 south of Silverside where friends may call after 10 am. J. Eric May Age 69, of Montchanin, DE, died on Sunday, November 7, 2004. Mr. May, was a graduate of Friends School Wilmington, the Hill School, and Kenyon College. He was a cartographer for the National Geographic, director of Hillendale Museum, and for 12 years Executive Secretary for the Dupont Genealogy Office.

He served on the boards of the Episcopal Church Home, the DuPont Cemetery, and Hagley Museum. He was a member of the Wilmington Club and the Wilmington Country Club. He was predeceased by his parents, Ernest N. May and Sophie duPont May. He is survived by 3 brothers and their spouses, Ernest and Betty May, of Washington, DC, and Kitty May, of Chadds Ford, PA, and Tom and Martha May, of Oakville, CA; nieces and nephews; and 11 grandnieces and grandnephews.

He is also survived by Will Prost, his domestic partner of 34 years; and numerous members of the Prost family. Interment will be private. A memorial reception will be held at a later date. Graveside service, 11 am, Thursday, November 11 in Millsboro Cemetery. Kevin Patrick McCormick, Jr. Age 30 of Wilmington, DE died tragically at home during a fire on Friday, November 5, 2004. Kevin was a 1992 graduate of Bohemia Manor High School and attended the University of Delaware. He was employed by Inner Spirits Liquor Store in Wilmington and previously worked for Rodell, Amazon.com, and Aztec.

His hobbies included music and photography, and he was a gifted artist. He was happy sketching and painting. His gifts of artwork will be a treasure to his family forever. He was predeceased by his grandfathers, John McCormick and Taylor Davis; his uncle, Dennis McCormick; and his dog, Courage. He is survived by his mother, Kathleen (Heglund) Schwab and her husband, Joseph Schwab, of Middletown; his father, Kevin Patrick McCormick, Sr.

and his companion, Kathie Kask, of Wilmington; his sister and brother-in-law, Kris McCormick O'Connor Kevin F. O'- Connor of Middletown; his stepfather, Carl Davis of Chesapeake City, MD; his maternal grandparents, Joan and Richard N. Rodriguez, age 70, of Smyrna, GA, a native of La Serena, Chile, died Sunday, November 7, 2004. Professor Rodriguez was an esteemed retired professor for the University of Chile, Ohio State University, University of Delaware, Georgia Institute of Technology, and Morehouse College. He was an avid gardener, and he loved to share meals with family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Angela Labarca, of Smyrna, GA; and daughter-in-law, Jennifer K.

Bill was a licensed electrician for many years in and around the Wilmington area. In the mid 1950's, Bill started his career in the auto sales business along with his brother-in-law, Harold Brown, and owned the Auto Sales Governor Printz until the 1960's. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran of WWII and served in the Panama Canal Zone. He enjoyed coin collecting.

Bill was the founding member of the American Party and ran on their ticket for State Representative in the late 1960's. He had a love of law and was very successful as a litigator. Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years Fay (Brown) Bryan who died 1990. He is survived by his sons, William C. Bryan, of Wilmington, and Charles R.

Bryan Age 83, died peacefully at home on Saturday, November 6, Elizabeth Jane Schmitt, (Betty) age 81, of Wilmington, DE, formerly of Washburn, WI, died November 6, after a brief illness.

Betty was an accomplished singer, and actress, who studied with Ted Huang. She began her singing career in high school as a soloist and as part of an award winning trio with two of her best friends. She kept her singing and acting career going as a soloist, hosting a weekly television variety show in Beaumont, TX "Tea at the singing with the DuPont Chorus and performing several seasons with the Wilmington Opera Society, where she had the opportunity to perform with her daughter, Joan. She moved to Wilmington in 1965, where she the St. Mary Magdalen Church, singing with the choir as a soloist and member for 39 years.

Her beautiful soprano voice could also be heard as a soloist at St. Peter's Cathedral, the VA Hospital and at many weddings and funerals. She also sang in a Three of Us" with her daughters, Joan and Ann. Betty enjoyed singing and playing piano and also being accompanied by her father-in-law, for many area senior homes. She brought many happy hours to those who were shut in.

She was a member of the Blessed, Virgin Magdalen Mary Church, Sodality the of DuPont Explosives Retirees and the AAUW. Betty was an active member in our community and touched the lives of all who were lucky enough to spend time with her. Betty dedicated her entire life to her family. She was a wonderful wife to her husband Robert A. Schmitt, who has preceded her in death in 1994.

She was a wonderful mother who spent much of her time raising their 5 children, who are now all accomplished men and women. She continued on to share the love and lives of her 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her daughter, Joan E. Schmitt. She is survived by her children, Robert and Barbara Schmitt, of Mt.

Juliet, TN, Ann Margaret Schmitt, of Annapolis, MD, Edward and Beverly Schmitt, of Thornton, PA and Susan J. and Steven Boyd, of Langhorne, PA; brothers, Bill Watters, Bud Watters; and sister Gus Allen. Shimp, age 78 of Pennsville, NJ, died Saturday November 6, 2004 at the Memorial Hospital of Salem County, Mannington Twp. NJ. Born in Salem to the late Roy S. and Elizabeth Powell Shimp, Earl was a lifelong Pennsville resident. He was employed as a production technician for Atlantic Electric, Deepwater operating Station where he retired in 1989 following 37 years service.

He was a member of the Quarter Century Club of Atlantic Electric. He also was a member of the Christian Science Church. Earl was a graduate of the Goldey Beacom Business College in Wilmington, DE and also attended Princeton University. He was a WWII Army Air Corps Veteran serving in Alaska as a cryptographer. Survived by his wife of 55 years, Valerie Bryant Shimp; a son, Robert L.

Shimp and his wife, Brenda, of Richmond, VA: brother, Robert Shimp, of Pennsville; a sister, Jean Robinson, of Pennsville; grandchildren, Christy, Michael, Jason Daniel, and Christina; great grandchildren, Cierra, Keirstyn, and Jason, Jr. Predeceased by a son, David E. Shimp; and a sister, Annabel James Humphreys. A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm, Thursday, November 11 at the LAUGHREY FUNERAL HOME, Pennsville, NJ, where friends may call from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. Burial of cremains will follow at the Lawnside Cemetery, Woodstown, NJ.
