She was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church, Selbyville, DE, a member of the Fenwick Island Women's Club, The Women's Club of the Keenwicks, The Fenwick Island Yacht Club and The Friends of the Selbyville Public Library. Nolan was born in Wilmington, DE on September 23, 1930. He attended Salesianum and was a Veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of St. Peter's Cathedral Church for 45 years. Retiring from Amtrak 44 years of service, Bryan also was an avid sports fan.

He was predeceased by his wife, Nellie in 1996. Arrangements by Melson Funeral Services of Frankford. Wednesday, OBITUARIES David Platt, M.D. David Platt, MD, age 93, died on February 3, 2008. Dr. Platt was a family practitioner in Wilmington from 1941 through 1989.

He practiced with his wife, Dr. Ethel Platt, except during his WWII deployment, which ty in the South Pacifincluded a tour of du- A ic. Dr. David, as he was often called to distinguish him from his wife, lived in Wilmington from his early childhood, graduating from Wilmington High School, and then the University of Pennsylvania's College and School. The Platts' practice, which eventually became Family Practice Associates, provided obstetric, pediatric, and adult care to a diverse group of individuals; it was among first in Wilmington to accept Medicaid payment.

Dr. Platt was active in both medical and community service. He served as Chief of the Department of General Practice at the Wilmington General Hospital, Chief of the Department of Family Practice and then President of the MedicalDental staff at Christiana Medical Center. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Delaware Academy of General Practice, a trustee of Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Delaware, Chair of the Mediof the Kutz Home, and a member of the Delaware Health Planning council. After retirement, Dr.

Platt was commissioned by the Health Department to lecture on health topics in schools and senior citizen groups. He was also active in the University of Delaware's Academy of Lifelong Learning, leading several of the Academy's most heavily subscribed courses. He taught his most recent course, in medical ethics, through his 92nd birthday in 2006. He also authored over 100 article, editorials, and book reviews in the Delaware Medical Journal; his writings in the Journal spanned 43 years, beginning in 1962 with a description of the General Practice Program at the Wilmington General Hospital, and including a 2005 call for a single payer health system for the United States. He received numerous awards.

A sample includes the president's award from the Medical Society of Delaware, commendation from the Wilmington City Council, 2 citations from the Delaware House of Representatives, awards from Hannah G. Solomon award from the Jewish Federation of Delaware, the Children and Families First J. Thompson Brown Award (with his wife) in for placing service to the community ahead of personal gain, and the Christiana Medical Center Commendation for Excellence Awarded in 2005 (also with his wife). The Delaware Academy, of Family Physicians established the David and Ethel Platt Summer Fellowship Program to encourage medical students to become primary care providers. Dr.

Platt is survived by his son, Richard of Brookline, MA; his sister, Freda Evans of Wilmington, DE; and his grandson, Alexander of Los Angeles, CA. Born June 28, 1967 in Wilmington, DE, the beloved son of the late Francis and Beatrice Oakes and sweet baby brother to 8 siblings. Don 1985 graduate of Glasgow High School and went on to receive a BS in Education from the University of Delaware. Don began his teaching career at Gauger Middle School in Newark, DE and most recently taught at Christiana High School in the Department of Social Studies-History. His for sports and music inspired him to author curriculum for CHS where he also coached JV Baseball.

Don was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Boston Celtics and the hometown Philadelphia Phillies, and frequently traveled to fields and ballparks across the country in support of these teams. His passion for music has been an inspiration to many and will continue to influence all who knew him. Above all, Don possessed an astonishing intellect, a sharp wit, and a boundless sense of humor combined with the gentlest and most tender, us heart. Don continues today. She was a devout Catholic attending daily Mass. Martina found joy in helping others, she volunteered for the Junior Board of Christiana was a Cub Scout Den Mother, and enjoyed her work at the McDonald's LPGA Championship for many years. Martina cherished the camaraderie of playing golf with the nine hole ladies group at Wilmington Country Club. They were married in June 1955, and together raised six children. Lil was well known as active member of the Claymont community for many years. Her many volunteer efforts included more 40 years with the Chesapeake Bay Girl Scout Council, where served as Unit Cookie Chairman, and as a member of the Catholic Committee on Scouting. She was a long time member of the Claymont chapter of the American Cancer Society. member of Holy Rosary Parish, Lil volunteered her talents and commitment as a teacher of Spanish and CCD classes, a member of the Parish Council, a lector, and a Eucharistic minister to the homebound.

Lil enjoyed family gatherings, travel, Broadway musicals classic movies. She lived her life based on a strong commitment to her Catholic faith and a true dedication to serving others. She traveled to Yugoslavia, Venezuela, Lourdes, and the Holy Land to visit places of religious significance. In October 2007, she was awarded the Order of Merit by the Diocese of Wilmington in recognition of her years of outstanding service. Lil was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Archie F.

Born in Wilmington on February 21, 1920, Mrs. Riley was a daughter of the late William Holden and Anna Belville Holden. She was a longtime member of Richardson Park United Methodist Church. She worked for the former Five Points Restaurant in Wilmington for 25 years and later was employed with Delaware Park, where she worked in the cafeteria until the age of 80. During her entire career, she never missed a day.

After graduation he served in the US Army Air Corps in Europe during World War II. He received his bachelor's degree from NYU and his master's degree and doctorate from Columbia University. He taught at Smithtown (NY) High School before becoming a professor at the University of Delaware, specializing in Comparative Education During summers, he taught at Cornell University and the University of Nevada and was a Fullbright Scholar in Japan and a Ford Fellow in Europe. He published extensively and sponsored many international programs such as the Irish Teachers program and Teachers from Chile. Dr.

Scarangello was also well known in Newark for his real estate investments, some involving historic preservation. He was preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Antonetta Scarangello; his younger brothers, Nick. Dante and Dominic Scarangello, and sister, Claire Sailor. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Dr. Aletha Scarangello of Newark, DE; son, Anthony, Scarangello I and April Hall, of Elkton, MD; daughter, Felicia Scarangello and her husband, John Chidiac, of Brooklyn, NY; daughter, Lori Withall and her husband, Bob, of Elizabethtown, SC; grandchildren, Robin Withall, Jackson Chidiac and Lora Scarangello; sister, Mary Macchi of Long Island, NY: and nephew, Charles Pitts of Wilmington, DE.
