This is not to write off Mollycuddle entirely. For one thing, they have some good hooks: Judd Hil-dreth is a lovely drummer; singer guitarist Sara Aase's candy-glazed voice is irresistibly listenable, once you get used to it. If Tommy Kim would sacrifice his thoroughly indie-rock yell-talk-singing to her, or at least join her in more duo-lead vocals, this band would sound immediately better. At this point, they still have one foot stuck in 1995. ChristoHk." AM Radio WABC WALK 770 1370 talk rack Dreams" Hyperion This mini-anthology of (mostly) English organ music will bring either smiles or sneers.

Those allergic to all organ music, or who limit their listening to the rigors of Bach and Buxtehude, will turn away. Those who appreciate the gentler, even the sentimental side of the King of Instruments should be delighted. Organist Christopher Herrick has gained a worldwide following with his eight volumes of "Organ Fireworks." Here, the light is reduced to a gentle, comforting glow, as he tackles the organ of the Temple Church in London. That round, medieval building is a noted tourist stop, as well as a place of worship for the barristers of the Inner and Middle Temple, two of England's Inns of Court long tradition of distinguished organists, two of whom are represented here. Walford Davies' "Solemn Melody" is just the thing a skillful organist might improvise at Evensong, raised td the nth degree.

George Thalben-Ball, Da-vies' successor, did, in fact, improvise his "Elegy," based on Davies' "Solemn Melody," then wrote it down for publication. Anyone whose heart is not warmed by these morsels should be banished to an ice floe in the North Atlantic. The one large piece, and decidedly non-English, is Cesar Franck's Choral No. 1, which Herrick gives an expert but restrained performance. Herrick lavishes much care even on such oddments as Charles Alkan's "Priere" in major, and on a well-built Prelude by William Lloyd Webber (father to composer Andrew and cellist JuMaitf Organ aficionados will appreciate the mellow-toned Harrison instrument, built in 1924 for a Scottish laird's ballroom, then moved to the Temple Church.

Herrick handles this four-manual beauty with aplomb, changing registration without grinding gears. The program booklet labels this "Organ Dreams 1." I can hardly wait for the follow-up. Ellen Mcllwalna, "Up From the Skies: The Potydor Years" Chronicles Mcllwaine had a booming voice, an aggressive acoustic slide guitar style and eclectic tastes when she cut the two albums in 1972 and 1973 that make up this best-of. What she lacked was a batch of great original songs to elevate her to the Joni Mitchell-Carole King-Laura Nyro level. Instead, she Continued on nxt pa i Knight Ridder Newspapers Mollycuddle, "It's Not You, H's Mo" Quilt Ridden Pop Mollycuddle.

Cute, right? Terribly. This local indie-pop cream puff of a band seems to have attended Go-Gos Academy, majoring in "hey-ho-let's go!" hand claps and edible girly harmonies. That's all good. The band members also have spent a decent amount of time on the dark side perhaps a post-collegiate miasma of Fugazi records and depression, bad love and no luck. TUB Vesult of this punknew wavepop education is a clean, pleasantly melodic, occasionally yummy but ultimately underwhelming statement of 20s-ish heartburn.
