The popularity of its newscasts climbed in the local ratings, and earlier this year reached the point where Channel 4 had more viewers for its 10 p.m. news than its two competitors combined. Then in July, the ratings climbed even higher to a whopping 48 per cent share of the 10 p.m. audience.

Such statistics are rare in the world of television. Meanwhile, Channel 13 and KGUN, Channel 9, were scrambling with independent KZAZ, Channel 11, and "Femwood 2Night," for the other half of the viewers. Whenever someone is on top, they can count on the competitors to try to knock them off. Channel 13 is doing exactly that to Channel 4 in these last few days before tbe first fall local ratings get under 0.1 at K. W.
