Sheaffer) Heifetz kin drop bid to buy stations By SHERRY STERN The Arizona Dally Star A request for Federal Communications Commission approval to buy Tucson radio stations KWFM and KEVT has been withdrawn by the prospective buyers because of high interest rates. Jay and Louise Heifetz, son and daughter-in-law of concert violinist Jascha Heifetz, began proceedings about four months ago to make the $3 million purchase. Frank Kalil, broker of the sale, said the couple decided that the interest rates on money they would have to borrow were more than they wanted to pay. The Heifetzes could not be reached for comment.

The withdrawal process began about two weeks ago and concluded Wednesday with dismissal by the FCC, which must approve all radio sales. By dropping out of the purchase, the Heifetzes forfeit their escrow money around $100,000 to the stations' owner, Alvin L. Kom-gold, according to KWFM General Manager Lee Dom-browski.
