306C. DAVIS-- I regret to Riy-ihut I have never hcen able to trace my Davis family of Newport any further than the miminge of Elizabeth Davis to William Stali in 17G-5. A Mr. J. V.

Mason of Tannton claimed to have the line lo Sir Thomas Davis, Lord of London 1C97. If correct the emigrant ancestor may not have eonieover -until a later date. Mr. Miisin wrote that he had presented his manuscript (which he completed In England) to "Ihe Historical Society." The Old Colony Historical Society in Tannton and New England Historical Genealogical Society in Boston say thev Im-e no such liolh tlm Mason and Davis families were of Newport. Can any one trace the papers? I have a collection of Davis notes from the Boston Transcript, which I have looked over for a Nathaniel.

I find but two, one, son of John and Abigail Maliter Davis, Dover, N. I I mar. Hannah about 1700; another whose father Joshua was b. 1705 ami diet! Bropkline, 1755. There were Davis families in liehoboth Portsmouth, II.
