Sean Jordan caught an 89-yard touchdown pass the longest reception in Army history from quarterback Tory Crawford to break a 14-14 second-quarter tie and lead the Cadets to a 49-37 victory over Lafayette Saturday at Michie Stadium. The game was a repeat of last year's 56-48 shoothout with both offenses rolling up big numbers. Army's wishbone gained 323 yards on the ground and six rushing touchdowns, including three by Crawford. Lafayette, 4-6, responded with 400 yards through the air, all by sophomore quarterback Frank sprinted to the end zone.

Lafayette took a 7-0 lead with a 14-play, 80-yard drive in the first quarter. Tailback James Adams, who gained 119 yards on 25 carries, finished the drive with a l-'-ard run with 4:17 left for the first of his two rushing touchdowns. Army, 4-6 with its annual showdown with Navy remaining, came back with a 65-yard drive capped by Crawford's 4-yard run with 1:13 left in the first quarter. It marked the first time Army scored a touchdown in the first quarter this year. Iafayette and Army exchanged second quarter scores on a 1-yard run by Adams and a 17-yard run by Crawford for a 14-14 tie.

Crawford's pass to Jordan broke the tie, but a 27-yard field goal by Lafayette's Jim Hodson pulled Lafayette to 21-17 at halftime. Army covered 64 yards in six plays with its first possession of the second half. Freshman halfback Mike Mayweather, scoring from 3 yards out at 12:43 of the third quarter. Army then recovered a Lafayette fumble on the ensuing kick-off and scored in four plays, with Crawford scoring on a 1-yard run for a 35-17 Army lead. Baur ran for another touchdown and threw for two more to Adams and split end Joe Lechner.

Fullback Ben Barnett and fresh- Baur, who set a school record for completions, hitting on 32 of 45 passes and two touchdowns. "What did he have, 6,000 yards?" Army Coach Jim Young said. Crawford completed two of his three passes, including the bomb to Jordan, for 135 yards. "I got a call from the press box that the front side of the post was open on that play," Young said. "The next time we got the ball, on the 11, 1 called it and it was there." Jordon broke from the line of scrimmage, cut toward the center of the field where he caught Crawford's pass near midfield and man John Capriotti added scores for Army.

Senior tailback Kenny Gamble rushed for 206 yards on 31 carries to become the all-time NCAA leader in all-purpose yards and quarterback Damon Phelan threw three touchdown passes as penalty-plagued Colgate crushed Boston University 38-0 on Saturday. Gamble, victimized by two costly penalties that deprived him of two touchdowns, completed his collegiate career with 7,623 all-purpose yards.

He also set NCAA Division I-AA records for career rushes with 963, most all-purpose yards gained per game with 181.2, and most games gaining 200 or more yards. He also equaled the all-time mark of 100-yard games for a career, tying Frank Hawkins who had 29 at Nevada-Reno. W. VIRGINIA 37, RUTGERS 13: Freshman quarterback Major Harris engineered scoring drives on six of West Virginia's first seven possessions to propel the Mountaineers to a 37-13 victory over Rutgers. WVU, 6-4, scored on extended drives the first four times it touched the ball and, after forcing a Rutgers punt with :57 left before halftime, scored again on a 44-yard Harris-to-Eugene Napoleon pass as time ran out.

HOUSTON 37, TEMPLE 7: David Dacus threw three touchdown passes to help spoil the Temple Owls' homecoming and lead the Houston Cougars to a 37-7 victory. Dacus, a junior, completed 36 of 50 passes for 376 yards as Houston, 3-6, sent Temple, 3-7, to iU sixth straight defeat. Houston, which had been allowing almost 33 points a game, intercepted four passes and held the Owls to 278 yards of total offense and only 60 yards in the first half. HARVARD 31, PENN 14: Tony Hinz ran for two touchdowns and Tom Yohe passed for one and sprinted for another, leading Harvard to a 31-14 Ivy League victory over Penn. Improving its record to 7-2, including 5-1 in the league, Harvard set up a showdown at Yale next Saturday for the Ivy championship.

Yale also is 5-1 after a victory Saturday over Princeton. Yohe's near perfect passing enabled the Crimson to take a 21-0 lead and Penn never could catch up. BROWN 19, DARTMOUTH Mark Donovan ran for one touchdown and threw for another as Brown used a strong ball-control game to beat Dartmouth 19-0 in an Ivy League game. Kirk Little gained 173 yards on 30 carries for Brown, while Lane Wood added 102 on 19 attempts. CORNELL 31, COLUMBIA 20: Dave Dase threw three touchdown passes to lead Cornell to a 31-20 victory over Columbia, pushing the nation's longest losing streak to 40 games.

Dase, a junior who completed 16 of 27 passes for 259 yards, twice connected with wide receiver Shaun Hawkins and also hit Mike Ready for scores as the Big Red improved to 5-4 and 4-2 in the Ivy League. YALE 34, PRINCETON 19: Kelly Ryan threw three touchdown passes and completed another long pass to set up a 1-yard touchdown run by Mike Stewart on as Yale defeated Princeton 34-19 for its sixth straight victory. Ryan completed 20 of 31 passes for 329 yards and broke his own school single-season record for passing yardage in the process. He now has passed for 1,929 this season, shattering the mark of 1,739. NAVY 31, DELAWARE 22: Navy quarterback Alton Grizzard, with a game-high 92 yards, rushed for the most yards by a freshman in a single Navy season and became the highest single-season rushing quarterback in Navy history, leading the Midshipmen to a 31-22 victory over Delaware.

Grizzard has amassed 483 yards rushing, topping the freshman record of 392 set by Larry Klawinski in 1976 and the quarterback rushing record of John Cartwright, who had 447 yards in 1967. Conference game. Short touchdown runs by Eric Gilstrap and Charles Perry, two field goals by Terry Syler and Goebel's TD pass to Chase staked the Bears to a 27-0 lead with 1:19 left in the first half. TEXAS 24, TCU 21: Texas tailback Eric Metcalf ran for 206 yards and two touchdowns as Texas held off Texas Christian 24-21 in Southwest Conference play. Metcalf, a 178-pound junior, ran 3 yards for a first quarter score and raced 57 yards in the third quarter for Texas' final touchdown and a 24-7 lead.

He ranked fourth in the nation in all-purpose running before the game and finished with 280 yards against Texas Christian. BRIGHAM YOUNG 37, TEXAS-EL PASO 24: Sean Covey passed for 249 yards and two touchdowns as Brigham Young defeated Texas-El Paso 37-24. The Texas-El Paso Miners, led by quarterback Pat Hegarty, dominated the first two quarters and lead 17-3 at halftime. But Hegarty was sidelined in the second half with a week-old jaw injury, and Brigham Young scored 34 straight points before the Miners could manage a touchdown drive late in the game. CALIFORNIA 38, ARIZONA STATE 20t Troy Taylor of California completed 13 consecutive passes in a first-half hot streak, hitting tight end Darryl Ingram for two touchdowns, and finished with three TD passes as the Golden Bears upset Arizona State 38-20 in a Pacific-10 game.

AIR FORCE 73, NEW MEXICO 26i Junior halfback Anthony Roberson scored three touchdowns and Air Force struck with strafing run quickness to demolish winless New Mexico 73-26 in a Western Athletic Conference game. The Air Force erupted for 35 points In the first quarter, scoring on its first five possessions virtually at will. The Falcons, who went into the game averaging 364 yards rushing per game, finished with 646 yards. The 73 points are the most allowed by New Mexico since it lost 75-12 to Texas-El Paso in 1967. Roberson scored on runs of 7 and 40 yards in the early assault that saw the Falcons need only 19 offensive plays to put the five touchdowns on the scoreboard.

OREGON STATE 38, STANFORD 7: Redshirt freshman Brian Johnson passed for three touchdowns to lead Stanford to a 38-7 Pacific 10 Conference football victory over Oregon State. Johnson threw touchdown strikes of 18 and 16 yards to tight end Jim Price and 49 yards to wide receiver Ed McCaffrey. Brad Muster rushed for 159 yards and two touchdowns for the Cardinal before leaving with about three minutes to play in the first half with a sore left ankle. SOUTHERN CAL 12, ARIZONA IOi Quin Rodriguez' fourth field goal of the game, an 18-yarder with 1:11 remaining, lifted Southern Cat to a 12-10 Pacific-10 Conference victory over Arizona and set the Trojans up for a title showdown against UCLA. Steven Webster gained 161 yards for the Trojans, who will face the cross-town rival Bruins at the Coliseum next Saturday for the Pac-10 crown and Rose Bowl berth.

Rodriguez' winning field goal capped a methodical 86-yard, 18-play march engineered by Trojan quarterback Rodney Peete. WYOMING 31, UTAH 7: Steve Bena rushed for three touchdowns as Wyoming crushed Utah 31-7 to remain atop the Western Athletic Conference. The first of Bena's scores came 10 seconds into the game after Utah fumbled the opening kickoff and Wyoming recovered. Utah's Jeff Jenkins fielded the kickoff and attempted a handoff to Curt Jones, but the ball was dropped and Wyoming's Steve Vana recovered on the Utah 1-yard line. On the first play, Bena went in for the score UTAH STATE 17, FRESNO STATE 13: Brent Snyder threw for 335 yards and two touchdowns in leading Utah State to a 17-13 Pacific Coast Athletic Association victory over Fresno State.

Snyder, who entered the game ranked 11th nationally in total offense, completed 22 of 48 passes and broke a school record for most passing attempts In a season. The junior from Joliet, 111., has attempted 388 passes, breaking the old mark of 351 set by Tony Adams in 1971. He now has 2,637 yards passing this season, 160 yards short of Adams' 1972 school mark of 2,797. OREGON 31, WASHINGTON STATE 17: Derek Lo-ville scored twice and Pete Nelson hit Terry Obee on an 89-yard touchdown pass play as the Oregon Ducks ran past the Washington State Cougars 31-17 in a Pacific-10 game. Loville, a sophomore tailback, gained 81 yards on 21 carries, including touchdowns from 8 and 2 yards.

Sophomore fullback Latin Berry added 41 yards on nine carries. The Associated Press DURHAM, N.C. Bryan Carter kicked a 32-yard field goal with 29 seconds left and quarterback Shane Montgomery passed for a school-record 468 yards as North Carolina State rallied from a 17-point halftime deficit to defeat Duke 47-45 in Atlantic Coast Conference action. Montgomery, benched earlier in the season and starting in place of the injured Preston Poag, completed three key passes on the Wolfpack's final drive to set up Carter's game-winning field goal his fourth of the contest. FLORIDA 27, KENTUCKY 14: Stacey Simmons returned the opening kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown and caught a 39-yard scoring pass from Kerwin Bell, making the Florida quarterback the Southeastern Conference's career TD pass leader as the Gators beat Kentucky 27-7.

The victory before a crowd of 73,021 at Florida Field stopped a two-game losing streak and may send the Gators, 6-4, to the Aloha Bowl in Honolulu on Christmas Day. Bowl bids will be extended next Saturday, one week before Florida 3-3 in the SEC closes the regular season against fourth-ranked Florida State. MEMPHIS STATE 43, LOUISVILLE Memphis State reserve fullback Bill Moody scored three touchdowns Saturday to lead Memphis State to a 43-8 victory over Louisville at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. Moody, a junior, scored on runs of 5 and 4 yards and caught a 6-yard pass from quarterback Tim Jones. RICHMOND 38, VILLANOVA 35: Chad Grier threw a 16-yard touchdown pass on fourth down to Lance Shealy with 23 seconds left to rally Richmond's Spiders to a 38-35 victory over Villanova's Wildcats.

It was the first scoring pass for Grier, but the sophomore backup quarterback completed 16 of 21 attempts for 215 yards as he went all the way in place of regular starter Austin Neuhoff. S. MISSISSIPPI 38, E. CAROLINA 34: Southern Mississippi defensive back James Henry returned two punts for touchdowns and made one interception Saturday to give the Golden Eagles a hard-fought 38-34 win over East Carolina in a battle of independents. Henry's 81-yard punt return in the third quarter and quarterback Brett Favre's 63-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Chris McGee put Southern Mississippi up 35-21 at the beginning of the fourth quarter.

VIRGINIA 20, NORTH CAROLINA 17i Quarterback Scott Secules directed two Virginia scoring drives in the final 4:44 and hit Keith Mattioli with a 9-yard touchdown pass with 30 seconds left to rally the Cavaliers to a 20-17 victory over North Carolina in Atlantic Coast Conference football. VMI 20, EAST TENNESSEE 13: Reserve tailback Joe France rushed for 84 yards and one touchdown Saturday to spark Virginia Military's Keydets to a 20-13 Southern Conference football victory. MICHIGAN 17, ILLINOIS 14: Phil Webb raced two yards for a touchdown in the final minute to give Michigan a 17-14 victory over Illinois. The Wolverines trailed 14-7 going into the fourth quarter. But Mike Gillette booted a 25-yard field goal to pave the way for the winning touchdown and the Michigan defense stopped the Mini cold.

MAINE 37, ILLINOIS STATE 34: Sophomore quarterback Mike Buck passed for 303 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Maine Black Bears to a 37-34 nonconference victory over Illinois State. Maine, co-champion of the Yankee Conference, ended its season 8-3. Illinois State, which wraps up its season next weekend, fell to 3-6. IOWA STATE 16, KANSAS STATE 14: Jeff Shudak booted three field goals, including the game winner with 46 seconds left, and Joe Henderson became Iowa State's first runner in six years as the Cyclones defeated winless Kansas State 16-14 in a Big Eight game. KENT STATE 14, MIAMI, OHIO 10: Fullback Eric Wilkerson rushed 34 times for 129 yards and a touchdown as Kent State defeated Miami of Ohio 14-10 in a Mid-American Conference game.

With Miami leading 10-0, Wilkerson scored the first touchdown for the Golden Flashes on a seven-yard run late in the third quarter. Wilkerson also set up the winning touchdown early in the fourth quarter. IOWA 28, OHIO STATE 27: Chuck Hartlieb hit Marv Cook with a 28-yard touchdown pass with six seconds remaining to give Iowa a 29-27 victory over Ohio State in a Big Ten Conference game. Hartlieb's pass came on fourth down and 23 at the Ohio State 28. Cook, a senior tight end, caught the ball at the right sideline at the 9-yard line.

He cut back to beat two defenders at the goal line. The late score erased a 27-22 Ohio State lead that came on Carlos Snow's 14-yard touchdown run with 2:45 left. PURDUE 20, NORTHWESTERN 15: Calvin Williams caught a 25-yard scoring pass in the first quarter and Scott Kalinoski scored six seconds later when he recovered a kickoff in the end zone for another touchdown Saturday as Purdue defeated Northwestern 20-15 in a Big Ten game. The game was less than three minutes old when Purdue got the two touchdowns to take a 14 0 lead. The Boilermakers moved 80 yards in eight plays with the opening kickoff, picking up 40 on a Shawn McCarthy pass to Anthony Hardy and scoring on McCarthy's toss to Williams.

BAYLOR 34, RICE 31 1 Brad Goebel capped a 27-point first half with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Darnell Chase and Baylor survived Rice's second-half comeback bid to beat the Owls 34-31 in a Southwest Associated Press Colgate's Kenny Gamble breaks away from Boston University's Jim Mercer. UCONN 52, RHODE ISLAND 7: Sophmore quarterback Matt DeGennaro passed for 234 yards and three touchdowns to lead Connecticut to a 52-7 Yankee Conference victory over Rhode Island. DeGennaro tossed scoring passes of 11, 1 and 26 yards. His final TD pass to Glenn Antrum in the third quarter was his 17th of the season, a school record. LEHIGH 21, BUCKNELL 21: Lehigh quarterback Mark McGowan threw a 49-yard touchdown pass to Rob Varano late in the third quarter to force a tie with Bucknell.

Bucknell drove 51 yards in the final three minutes, but a 39-yard field goal attempt by sophomore kicker Steve Barimo went wide to the right with just 16 seconds left. HOLY CROSS 40, WILLIAM ft MARY 7: Quarterback Jeff Wiley and all-purpose halfback Gordie Lockbaum teamed up to lead unbeaten NCAA Division I-AA's top-ranked Holy Cross to a 40-7 victory over visiting William Mary. Wiley and Lockbaum set records in the Crusader victory. Wiley completed 29 passes in 41 attempts for 255 yards and one touchdown, breaking his own school single-game completion mark of 28 that he set on Oct. 3 in a 49-7 victory over Colgate.

Lockbaum gained 212 total yards 58 yards on 12 rushing attempts, 80 yards on 10 receptions and 54 yards on three punt returns. In scoring the first Holy Cross touchdown of the afternoon, Lockbaum tied the Crusader career rushing touchdown record with 26. NEW HAMPSHIRE 17, UMASS 10: Bob Jean led a dazzling passing attack to help New Hampshire to a 17-10 win over Massachusetts. The win improves UNH to 7-2 and keeps the Wildcat hopes for an NCAA Division I-AA playoff bid alive. UMass is 2-8.

Jean completed 29 of 45 passes for 343 yards, and set three UNH career passing records. O'Riordan sets Wagner records RPI 24, HOBART 10: Freshman taiback Scott Milne rushed for 190 yards and two touchdowns on a school record 43 carries to lead RPI to a 24-10 victory over Hobart. HOFSTRA 35, KINGS POINT 14: Mike Cadella carried 28 times for 191 yards and scored twice on 1-yard runs as Hofstra defeated Kings Point. JUNIATA 37, UPSALA 6: Junior quarterback Cubby Davis threw five touchdown passes as Juniata handed the Vikings their sixth straight loss. WILLIAMS 31, AMHERST 7: Neal Chesley ran for 153 yards and scored a touchdown in leading Williams past Amherst.

JERSET CITY ST. 15, ST. PETER'S Kurt Rupple tied a school record by kicking three field goals and Joe Stevenson returned a blocked punt 4 yards for a touchdown as Jersey City State capped its season, defeating St. Peter's. TUFTS 24, BATES 20: Freshman Mike LaCamera sprinted 11 yards for a touchdown with 37 seconds to play, lifting Tufts past Bates.

DAYTON 24, ITHACA Senior tailback Dave Jones rushed for 129 yards on 29 carries for two touchdowns to lead Dayton. KEAN 30, W. CONN 14: Junior tight end Kevin McGuirl caught two touchdown passes and set up another score with a 40-yard punt return to lead Kean College to a 30-14 victory. ST. LAWRENCE 24, ALBANY STATE 21: Sophomore running back Eddie McShan scored his second touchdown of the game late in the fourth quarter to give St.

Lawrence a 24-21 come-from-behind victory. The Associated Press NEW YORK Tom Underwood scored four touchdowns on runs of 63, 5, 5 and 1 yards, as Wagner defeated Pace 59-7. Wagner placekicker Gerry O'Riordan of Stony Point kicked eight consecutive extra points to go 34-for-34 on the year. He also kicked his 13th field goal of the season and his eighth consecutive, both breaking Wagner records of 12 and seven set in 1984 by his brother Tom. SPRINGFIELD 23, AIC 25: American International QB Dan Hirsch threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Brain Lenane and a 2-point conversion to Mark Cordei-ro with 48 seconds remaining to tie Springfield.

Springfield, which trailed 14-0 at the half, went ahead 18-17 on a 42-yard run by quarterback Randy Turer of Suffern on fourth down with 6:14 left in the game. Turer also scored on a 6-yard burst. ST. JOHN'S 55, CATHOLIC 6: Scott Scesney threw two touchdown passes and scored twice, leading St. John's to a 55-6 romp over Catholic in the season finale for both teams.

FORDHAM 30, C.W. POST 7: Rick Hollawell carried 26 times for 113 yards and scored on runs of 3 and 12 yards, as Fordham beat C.W. Post 30-7 in a Liberty Conference game and remained in contention for an NCAA Division III playoff berth. STONY BROOK 24, BROCKPORT 7: John Winslow set a school single-game rushing record of 152 yards on 13 carries and scored twice, leading Stony Brook to a 24-7 triumph over Brockport State. BOWLA page 1 Since the bowl committee historically tries to avoid repeat games, White Plains, not Scarsdale, likely will draw Fox Lane.

That leaves Scarsdale against either Spring Valley or Arlington. The three Class matchups probably will pit 9-0 powers Harrison and Byram Hills in the first game and 8-1 teams John Jay of KatonaLewisboro and Nanuet In the second. Rye and John F.
