To some it's merely flickering images of John Wayne and Robert Mitchum in helmets and camouflage. To others it's a vague recollection of a father, uncle or brother in uniform returning home thin and tired. "The World at War" has been made by an international team under award-winning Executive Producer Jeremy Isaacs. The Chief Historical Adviser for the project is Dr. Noble Frank-land, DFC, official war historian and Director of London's renowned Imperial War Museum. The narrator is Sir Laurence Olivier. World War II: the heroism, the cowardice, the inefficiency, the greatness, the scope of humanity, the dedication to one objective.

It remains the darkest hour, and the most brilliant moment in recorded history, and now it is visually explored in actual footage from the era, and contemplatively explained by those who were actually there.
