TRAIN FOR MANAGEMENT ON FULL SALARY WALLACE YOUNGE too big, too impressive to be but for its high caliber of acting to be seen, and, once seen, imagery, and austerity by Da- vertheless suspenseful Russian melodrama. In a sense it is an epic of a time in history (1905- 1935), showing the change brought by World War I and the Bolshevik revolution on the lives of a dozen interesting persons.

Although Robert Bolt's script is necessarily ar omits much of imcondensers pact and symbolic overtones because of the film's stressing of the romantic aspects, yet, through Lean's electrifying direction, the book's descriptive passages are brilliantly illuminated in the vast scenic beauty and the haunting musical background. Using a flash-back technique to tell its story is one of the few weaknesses of the film. After its slow and somewhat confusing start, the picture moves, with rapidity and, at times, jumps from sequence to another with such abandon that the viewer becomes momentarily befuddled. Some motivations of character are lacking, but, by large, they are well etched and show development. Against the giant sweep of the revolution, these characters are unable to shape or to understand fully the events which are transforming their lives.

Julie Christie portrays Lara with a gifted naturalness and sensitivity as she grows from an innocent, reserved girl of 17 to a mature, emotional woman, fully aware of the hopelessness of her love for Zhivago. Sharif brings to this man more of a saintly quality than necessary, perhaps, although the man's sensibility and awareness of his guilt in loving Lara are carefully defined. The role of his wife Tonya is gentle warmth and exquisite understanding by Geraldine Chaplin. Guinness as Zhivago's Bolshevik half-brother shows the man's lingering taste for human relationships despite his allegiance to the party. On the other hard Courtenay is the epitome of the dehumanized party member who as Lara's early husband Pasha, forgets her, and goes on to become the terrifying General Strelnikov.

Steiger makes an uncompromising, relentless lecher of Komarovsky; Miss Tushingham is most touching as the girl thought to be Lara's daughter; Richardson renders the aristocrat Gromeko with elegant precision. Mediators Enter Christmas Strike MIAMI (Special) Federal mediators have been assigned to arbitrate the walkout of the International Union of Mine, Mill and Smelter Workers at the Inspiration Copper Co. The walkout, resulting from the death Tuesday of Ezekial Sanchez, 37, of Globe, who was killed in an accident at Inspiration's Christmas mine, has shut down the Christmas mine and Inspiration properties in Miami. Request for federal mediators was made by Sylvain Schnaittacher, of Tucson, representative of the international union. Commissioner Louis Ziman, of the Federal Mediation Conciliation Service in Phoenix, has been assigned the case.
