The referees stepped off a total of 26 penalties for 280 yards against the two elevens 14 for 1U0 against the Cowboys and 12 for 120 against the Indians.

26. (JP) West Texas State's Buffaloes and the McMurry Indians fought to a 20-20 standstill here tonight. West Texas gained the tie with the hard-running Indians in a late fourth period rally. With the score 20-13 in favor of McMurry, the Buffaloes took the bail on their own 42-yard line and in 10 plays went the distance. The big punch was a 24-yard run by Welchell to the 10-yard stripe.

(JP) The six-foot-four Jack Carroll, a veteran pass snatcher, was the towering target for two touchdown passes as Holy Cross' smooth rolling football forces opened its season with a 28-6 victory over Dartmouth today in a nationally televised game. The Crusaders, using three passers, totaled three aerial touchdowns and the other was provided by a 30-yard overland drive that Fullback Tommy Murphy ended with a six-yard scoring plunge.
